It seems like it was just last week that we were gushing over the Bottleneck Lounge. Oh yeah, that was just last week. Well, we're talking about them again. In honor of the Gay Superbowl, the Central District bar is hosting a party:
Get Out Sunday: The Academy Awards at the Bottleneck Lounge
Seattlest Roundtable: The Oscars
Yes, they're overblown and sure, it's tiring to watch 4+ hours of Hollywood patting itself on the back, but it's the Academy Awards, fer fuckssake. We can't not watch Sunday's big show. From the red carpet fashion to the drawn-out musical numbers to the people-who've-died montage and the Academy's tribute to gaffers, the Oscars offer something for everyone. Plus, this year it's hosted by Jon Stewart and, though his comedy is not exactly made for Hollywood insiders, we still love that wee little funnyman. (Fact: Jon Stewart is approximately Oscar-sized.)
SIFF Rocks Neumo's
SIFF runs a tight ship. Even though their Face the Music party at Neumo's last night had a bajillion bands on the bill---all of whom were doing ~20 minute sets chockful of covers, as a tribute to musicians featured in films at the festival--- somehow they were actually running ahead of schedule. How often does that happen at a regular rock show, let alone one with eleven musical acts? Somebody must've been cracking the whip. Truly, this slavedriver should be commended.
Hu Stalker 2
The Hu stalking was pretty straightforward yesterday: airport, downtown, Redmond, Medina, roughly. You could have followed the helicopters around to get a good idea of the Chinese president's movements, or the protests were also a good indicator. Notable signage we saw around the CBD included Falun Dafa and the old standby: Free Tibet, which we love to see. It's just comforting to know that despite all the trendy new reasons to be pissed off at China there are still diehards out there willing to dust off the Free Tibet signs they drew up in the 90s. You go, protesters. Free Tibet.
Elsewhere in the Ist-a-verse
Torontoist throws down the gauntlet and challenges all comers: pillow fight, bitch. They also stand up for a fellow blogger taking heat from the TTC and welcome city-wide WiFi.
Things to Do, Besides Awesome Concerts
There's a whole bunch of good shows coming up these next few days, so if you didn't get Arcade Fire or Death Cab tickets (both long sold out) and if you're also skipping Wolf Parade's solo set at the Croc (for which you would be both unbelievably short-sighted and incredibly lame), you can spend your evenings at few other events going on around town---
