A while ago we interviewed local author Amanda Ford about her new book Kiss Me I'm Single: An Ode to the Solo Life. Tonight's book reading is supposed to include "one or more of the following: a lively discussion of archetypal paradoxes that pervade human existence, origami lessons, singing of vintage sorority songs, libation consumption, kissing, the use of metaphors."

A while ago we were looking for a picture of a mojito and in our search we ran into local author (and mojito photographer) Amanda Ford. She told us she had a book coming out and we said, Great, let us know when it's on the shelves and we'll interview you.
Back in October we posted about not being able to get our grubby little eyes on Jonathan Raban's new novel until January. The month has come and, now, gone, and the book is available at all your favorite retail outlets - Tonight Jonathan's reading from it at Queen Anne Books. If you've never heard Jonathan Raban speak you're nearly as impoverished as if you'd never read any of his books. He seems to write out loud like he just can't turn it off. He can't stop this volume and density of ideas and observations from flowing out of himself, and then there's a way about his voice that's so conspiratorial, so peculiarly British, so charmingly agile in tone and inflection that... Uhm, we're fans.
We successfully navigated the B-word over the weekend without seeing John Moe do his McSweeney's dance, which is not very neighborly of us. It's something we would love to see and hopefully he performs again sometime soon, although that seems unlikely because he's got this whole book thing going on as well.
Speaking of blooks, friend of Seattlest Rebecca Agewich is reading tonight from her book, "BreakupBabe: A Novel." It's at Queen Anne Books at 6:30 but if you absolutely cannot wait that long here's a little headstart:
We haven't read the novel that Rebecca Agiewich spun out of her blog Breakup Babe, but we are familiar with the site itself and once upon a time subscribed to the Babe's tales of woe. The Breakup Babe blog chronicled her various spectacular breakups and attempts to date again in their wake, but it's been kinda idle recently and we understand that blogging doesn't exactly increase one's value in the dating pool (shh, don't tell Seattlest contributors). In fact, we're willing to bet that Rebecca can't wait to have at that blog like a French teen on a Zidane poster and rip it right off the wall, but as she explains in this P-I interview, her publishers are hoping it will stick around for the time being. Rebecca, can you let us know when you plan on the ceremonious unposting of Breakup Babe so we can help you celebrate?
