Can't Miss It: Tuesday

ONE-MAN PUPPET SHOW: Capitol Hill's Annex Theatre will be hosting my dear Lewis tonight. Written and performed by Kyle Loven, recipient of the Jim Henson Foundation 2009 grant and recent Seattle transplant, this "one-man show explores the ordinary and the extraordinary events that make up a person's life, and what remains when it's no longer in our hands." Though this description is slightly confusing to us (whose hands are our lives in then?), we're hoping it refers to the muppets puppets that will be featured as a part of this "dreamlike reality" that includes image-driven work such as music, objects, and projections. And hey, it's got be spectacular if the Henson folks love it! Too bad they probably won't be including the Riverbottom Nightmare Band as an opening act.

GAMES (AND THE PEOPLE WHO MAKE/PLAY THEM): If you're a gamer, then you've already planned to spend your entire weekend around the convention center for the Penny Arcade Expo. What better way to spend the last days of summer than indoors playing the latest and upcoming games, talking to developers and hearing gamer-friendly music? It's officially sold out, but it never hurts to try. If that doesn't work, there's always PAX East in March. Convention Center, Friday-Sunday.

is a dark, disturbing, and obscene work that explores the darkest facets of human nature in the most disturbing manner possible.

THE SEARCH FOR ALANIS: Is over. She's appearing at the Paramount Theatre tonight for a show that has to be in part an extended post-election celebration. Honestly, we haven't listened to Flavors of Entanglement yet, but come on, who has? Besides, she never responds to our emails. Join the Alanis faithful and boo that one guy from Two Guys, a Girl and a Pizza Place. Van Wilder or something.

By the time we made it to the Paramount for Avenue Q's opening night last night, just about everyone we know had told us how much we were going to love it. That's a high bar our friends and family set for this show. Now we know it's because they knew it could deliver.

Last night, Bumbershoot announced the first set of acts slated for this year's festival. So far, there's a name or two that could draw us to Seattle Center this Labor Day weekend. Beck? Hell yes! A reunited Stone Temple Pilots? Not so much.
