Former Husky Overton Faces More Legal Troubles

Former Husky Overton Faces More Legal Troubles

Back in January, Venoy Overton was a starting guard for the UW men's basketball team. He also happened to be under investigation for an alleged sexual assault involving two 16-year-old girls. Though the charge was eventually reduced to a misdemeanor for providing alcohol to a minor, Overton's off-court antics created an embarassing and unwelcome distraction for the squad who eventually limped into the NCAA Tournament in spite of early season promise. more ›

Area Media Inundated With Violent Teenage Girls

Area Media Inundated With Violent Teenage Girls

Did the Jonas Brothers suddenly break up and nobody told us? Teenage girls in Western Washington are going violently apeshit this week and we can’t put a finger on why. Either somebody is putting testosterone in the water supply, or the hormone count in our processed foods has suddenly reached a tipping point--either way teenage girls in the area aren’t taking shit in stride. more ›

This Explains All the Red Lights on Eastlake

Just the other day we were tut-tutting Bainbridge for their Bella Unionizing (gratuitous Deadwood reference). Now we read in the pixelized P-I that an Eastlake massage business and alleged brothel, the Sacred Temple, was raided by the po-po yesterday. (So was the Moon Temple at the 10000 block of Greenwood Avenue North.) The Sacred Temple's hilarious About Us page [Google cache] says: "Our work is sensual in nature, often intimate, and the intent is to honor and restore every part of the body, from the bottom of your feet to the tips of your fingers and the top of your head. We ask that you please refrain from discussing any sexual activities over the phone or in your emails to us." more ›

Carr Reminds Seattle: Pretty Woman Not Reality

We almost classified this as breaking news: prostitution does not, after all, usually follow what City Attorney Tom Carr calls the Pretty Woman model. In all the 21st-century mish-mash of interactive culture, infotainment and news media increasingly focused on Hollywood's mind-games, we're grateful for the reminder; lately, when we drive around South Lake Union in the evenings, we squint at every prostitute on the sidewalk, hoping we'll run into Julia Roberts. That would make a really great morning news item, unlike the boring but true report that now real prostitutes and their johns are going to have to pay for their own group therapy because real life is even messier than TV. more ›

Tacoma's Formerly Dirty Turkish Bathhouse

Tacoma's Formerly Dirty Turkish Bathhouse

Never know what you're gonna find when you climb down a manhole. It could be your average sewer, or... well, this guy found a huge, once-luxurious, 120-year-old Turkish bathhouse hidden under downtown Tacoma. The kicker is that the property was at times owned by famous vice lords Peter Sandberg (7th paragraph down on this page) and Vito Cuttone (11th paragraph down). How fantastic, in the traditional sense of the word! Really, who woulda thunk? It seems ripe for some sort of historical romance novel about a prostitute, her pimp, and the logger who loves them both. more ›

Local Brothels' Cover Story Not Very Creative

The feds shut down three more brothels masquerading as tanning salons, this time in Greenwood, Tukwila and Renton. They're still using that cover story? Come on, people. Now that three more "salons" have bit the dust, we're sure Seattle will move further along the journey towards restoring the shining image of tanning salons as our community's beacons of health and moral rectitude. Also, our condolences go out to the undercover investigators who risked infectious skin diseases in the name of gathering evidence for this case. more ›

If We've Told You Once, We've Told You A Hundred Times...

...do not find prostitutes on Craigslist. If you do, and they end up assaulting you or not going through with the agreed act (and we've told you this too), do not call the Seattle Police Department to report it. The Seattle 911 Blog has yet another example of what should be well known to you by this point, dear readers. An unnamed man found a prostitute on Craigslist; he met her, she upped the price of her services, and then the prostitute assaulted said man after he chased her to an AM/PM. The jilted john called the SPD to report the assault. Of course, when he reported the assault, he had to explain to the officer the events surrounding the assault and...well. As a result, he ended up with not only a case number and a warning from the SPD, but also with his very own Seattlest post. Don't do it, kids. more ›

Another Reason Not to Hire an Escort from the Back of a Weekly

There are plenty of reasons not to hire an escort you spot in a photo in the back pages of The Seattle Weekly or The Stranger. For one, prostitution (yeah, we know, it's for the "company") is still illegal. For two, STDs STDs STDs! And lastly, as an unlucky 80-something-year-old man learned, they might just steal your money without performing for you. Seattle 911 says a man in his early 80s showed up at the West Seattle Police Precinct to report a theft. The man had found a young lady in the back of the Weekly and paid $250 upfront. Before the duo engaged in the paid-for act, the escort ran to her car to grab a condom. Rather than face the prospect of getting boned by an 80-something-year-old, the escort did not return. Thus the self-incriminating, would-be Casanova reported the theft to the SPD, which we think is just classic. more ›

Cops Bust Really Tacky Aurora Salon For Prostitution

Cops Bust Really Tacky Aurora Salon For Prostitution

Ahh, Aurora: what a beautiful name for Seattle's often-ugly, often-sketchy throughway! Why does it not surprise us to hear that an Aurora "tanning salon," located in the Oak Tree cluster, got busted this weekend for fronting a prostitution service? So, so tacky. more ›

"Round Up the Usual Suspects"

"Round Up the Usual Suspects"

So Rick's was raided on Wednesday night:

P-I night reporter Scott Gutierrez was out on the scene and reports that police arrested 14 dancers and one manager for what a police spokesman said were violations of the city's adult entertainment ordinance.
Hmm. 14 dancers and a manager. Who's missing? more ›
