Well, folks, Pride weekend has officially come and gone, and every last ounce of rainbow has been squeezed out of our veins. It was a hot weekend to be outside on hard, hot pavement drinking beer and scoping the scene, but we perservered so that we could have a tale to tell you people.

Okay, okay. So Pride is actually going to happen. Even now, on the precipice of this extraordinary weekend celebration o' gayness, all our friends have no effing clue what's going on. If they, in all their gay glory, don't have a clue, we figured maybe you don't either. But Seattlest is here for you in these tough times and that's why we're gonna break it down all easy-like and tell you what we think is worth bothering with.

After many on again, off again mis-starts Seattle Out and Proud is abdicating responsibility for Pride festivities this year, as expected.

That giant snapping sound you heard this week was the gay and lesbian community splitting in two over the proper way to celebrate Pride Weekend in Seattle. On the one hand the festivities, particularly the Running of the Gays, have gotten too large for Capitol Hill. We have a sense that the phrase "too many straight people" belongs in that last sentence somewhere. On the other hand, there’s a strong feeling that the proper place for Pride events is the Hill and only the Hill. What to do, what to do...

A few years back Seattlest used to go down to Sluggers near the stadiums to watch football on Sunday mornings. The first year we did that things were pretty chill there as games were being held at Husky Stadium. Opening day the following season we forced ourselves out of bed against a big hangover and got on the bus to downtown, hoping to arrive before 10am kickoff. We made it, but when we breezed through the door to Sluggers we weren't greeted with the subdued drinking and televised bliss we were expecting. Games had moved back to Qwest Field and we were blasted with the full force of hundreds of face painters getting in their pre-game shots and actually fucking singing. Possibly a lot of the people from these pictures of the Seahawks Pride Parade over the weekend in Kirkland were there. Damn them for that day..

We know it's still February and the Pride Parade isn't until June, but an event like that takes a lot of planning. There's a lot of organizing to do before you even start planning, and then you can't really organize until you get the volunteers together to meet each other, preferably over drinks. Come to think of it, you may have to meet four or five times over drinks to get everyone comfortable with each other and to develop a good team environment.
