Oh Boy, Did We Do Some Celebrating Last Night!

After Obama's speech last night, our little party of 10 or so took to Broadway, where nobody had yet gathered, and walked from Republican to Pike, high-fiving people and cheering, provoking cars to honk and just having a ball. By the time we got back to Broadway and John, this was happening: more ›

Vivace Coffee Will Win This Election For Obama

Here's a creative idea for how to support the presidential candidate of your choice in this last, crucial week: mail an exhausted campaign worker a pack of vacuum-sealed Vivace coffee beans to help them fight the good fight in battleground states like Ohio, North Carolina, and Florida. The Hoosier State works, too, as Obama supporter/Seattlest's housemate Sarah Moon found out when she received this email back in thanks from an expat Seattlite working for the Campaign for Change in Evansville, Indiana: more ›

He's not the cultural Molotov cocktail his VP opponent is, but he's probably talked to Barack Obama, like, dozens of times, so, OMG a guy who knows Obama was in Tacoma this weekend! This photo is courtesy of grundlepuck, and he's got a few more of the Joe Biden/Cheney Stadium event worth checking out in the Seattlest Flickr Pool. more ›

No Palin for Seattle

Sudden celeb Sarah Palin, John McCain's Vice Presidential pick, has canceled a scheduled appearance next week in Seattle. Palin was the guest of honor (see: big money draw) at a fundraiser set for the 24th, but she won't be attending due to 'scheduling conflicts.' Palin will likely be in Michigan or some other swing state stumping for McCain. Since you won't be able to see the Tina Fey look-a-like in the flesh, we leave you this: the Sarah Palin baby name generator. If Sarah Palin was your mom what would your name be? Henceforth, we'd like to be called by our Alaskan name, Charcoal Sniper Palin. more ›

McCain Gaining on Obama in Washington

McCain Gaining on Obama in Washington

According to a King5-commissioned poll, Barack Obama's lead in Washington is diminishing. Obama's lead has dropped from double digits in June to only four percentage points in the most recent poll. If the election was held today, 49% of Washingtonians would vote for Barack Obama and 45% would cast their vote for John McCain. more ›

Molly RoseLast week, we headed out to Smith to catch up with local singer/songwriter Molly Rose, to chat about her work, learn about her purpose in life, and come back here to tell you people all about it so that you'd feel inspired to head to Columbia City Theater for her show this Thursday night. more ›

Ready for an Obama-Gregoire Fist Bump?

If you're not, you better get ready. Michelle Obama, the future First Lady of the United States, will be joining Washington Governor Christine Gregoire onstage for a fundraising event in July. Somehow this fundraising event is free—seems like flawed logic to us—and open to the public. It will take place on July 17th at WaMu Theatre at Qwest Field from noon to 3 p.m. more ›

Amanda Knox--the Other Neverending Story

Amanda Knox--the Other Neverending Story

The Amanda Knox case, similar to Hillary Clinton's campaign for the Democratic nomination, seems to be never-ending. It boggles the mind how Knox still sits uncharged in an Italian jail while evidence continues to build that she is likely innocent. Just like the Hillary campaign, the Italian police seem to be continuously denying the most recent evidence and plodding on the course they planned to take all along: Hillary will be President, Amanda Knox will be guilty. more ›

Oregon is Obama Country

Oregon is Obama Country

The 75,000 strong crowd doubled (and-then-some) the previous record for attendance at an Obama event. Before the candidate took the stage, the crowd was serenaded by Portland's own, The Decemberists. The band, like Obama, were doubtlessly playing for their largest crowd to-date. Oregon's primary is this Tuesday, the 20th. As the record-breaking crowd indicates, Obama is expected to win handily.

McDermott Endorses Obama

McDermott Endorses Obama

The latest endorsement may not be on a John Edwards scale. But, in such a tightly contested race, every endorsement (especially one from a superdelegate) is a victory worth celebrating. Washington Representative and superdelegate Jim McDermott announced his support of Barack Obama today. McDermott told the Seattle P-I that he is supporting Obama because he is "confident as president he will end the war in Iraq and bring our sons and daughters home." more ›

John Kerry to Make "Fever Pitch" in Seattle and Tacoma Tomorrow

This Seattlest has long been a Hillary supporter, so you could imagine our surprise when we started getting seemingly random emails on behalf of the Obama campaign. We were annoyed at first, until we remembered being a leftover on the John Kerry mailinglist from 2004. Kerry, of course, announced his endorsement of Obama recently, and he won't stop emailing us about his excitement and dedication. more ›

Read the Sashimi: Democrats to Take the White House in 2008

Read the Sashimi: Democrats to Take the White House in 2008

Our favorite local food site has been doing some thinking about politics and the way people in different cities eat and vote. They divided the number of steak restaurants by the number of sushi restaurants in a given city to come up with a "Steak/Sushi Index." Seattle's SSI, for example is 0.75, indicating that we eat more sushi than steak; the SSI of Dallas, TX is 3.01 indicating a preference for steak. Urbanspoon has been able to show that the more a city eats sushi over steak (or the lower their SSI) the more they tended to vote for Kerry over Bush in the last election. more ›

Harvey Danger Saying Cool Stuff On The Radio

Harvey Danger Saying Cool Stuff On The Radio

Our mysteriously long commute this morning (the rain? aurora borealis centralized on 99?), in concert with an even more mysterious mp3 player outage (battery power? the gods telling us we need an iPod? technical ineptitude?) forced us to catch Harvey Danger on KEXP. KEXP is broadcasting out of the Museum of Television and Radio in NYC currently, which has absolutely nothing to do with the fact that Harvey Danger (we think it was Sean?) was on with host John Richards and saying a lot of incredibly cool things. Plus they played a few tracks from their new Little by Little CD and they were incredibly decent, particularly Wine Women and Song. more ›

Same-Sex Marriage Troops Mobilizing

As the first movement on the issue since the Presidential Election in November, the wranglings in our state Supreme Court will definitely be something to see, and the fallout could be dramatic. Will we carry on with our current status quo, or will same-sex marriage be made legal in the state, and, if so, will east King County and eastern Washington be re-energized in their plea for independence from Soddom? more ›
