Swedish Does Totally Awesome Thing, Underwrites New Planned Parenthood
Yesterday, Swedish announced that they would no longer be performing elective abortions, due to the organization's potential alliance Providence Health & Services, a Catholic health system. This decision drew great ire from many, particularly in light of other blows to the pro-choice camp yesterday, including the House's passage of HR 358. However, today, the Seattle Times reports, Swedish is doing women and their right to choose a solid--by offering financial backing to a new Planned Parenthood branch, located on their First Hill campus.
Mainstream Republicans of Washington Stand for Planned Parenthood When Convenient
A State Republican group passes judgment on what Jay Inslee did with an 11-year-old donation from Anthony Weiner, saying he is causing damage to the pro-choice cause by passing the money on to Planned Parenthood. Planned Parenthood Votes disagrees. Plus, a bonus Batman video!

Can't Miss It: Thursday
CAMPY: Nina Persson was a teenage crush of ours, back when she was producing brilliantly guileless pop with her band the Cardigans. So it's nice to see she's back on the road with a new band, A Camp, which began as a collaboration between her and soundtrack artist/husband Nathan Larson (damn you!) and Niclas Frisk. Now they're touring with a veritable who's who of American rock, including Kevin Marsh of Guided by Voices and James Iha of the Smashing Pumpkins and A Perfect Circle, all in support of a brilliant new album called Colonia (their second) that's somewhat akin to what would happen if Abba bred with the Carpenters.
Bad Economy Encourages More Vasectomies
Family planning clinics throughout the Northwest are seeing a 50 percent increase in patients, and a noticeable change in economy-driven behavior, with requests for vasectomies and birth control prescriptions on the rise. As the economy sours with more pink slips, the idea of starting or growing a family seems to be the last thing on the minds of the unemployed and uninsured. With more pregnancy prevention alternatives available, Planned Parenthood clinics in the Northwest have seen a seven percent drop in abortion cases, while over the past three months in 2009, there has been a reported sharp increase of 14.6 men (8.6 in late 2008) seeking vasectomies a month.
