Pete Yorn did not disappoint us on Friday night. It was pretty obvious about eighty percent of the concert-goers were there to take a step back in time and hear MusicForTheMorningAfter in its entirety. That's what we were excited about and sang every note as loud as we could. Embarrassing? Maybe. Do we care? No. What ended up surprising us was Ben Kweller's incredible set starting off the evening. He put on quite a show and he had some die-hard fans up front brightening his already charming smile more than once. He has a great way of mixing acoustic easy tunes with hard-edged electric solos. Both styles performed by him with seemingly flawless transitions; we were in awe. He talked about heading to the studio for a new album and exciting times ahead after a long hiatus. You can check out more shots here from a truly stellar show.

Pete Yorn's in the Hizzy, i.e. He's at Showbox Sodo Tomorrow
Pete Yorn may have started out his career success with a sound like a rainy Seattle (insert any season here) day. He had that kind of voice that would lull you whether he was singing about a heartbreak or a three-ring circus. With a feeling of a slow shuffle while at the same time driving forward like a rock song, Yorn has a way of pulling in the listener. However, he's changed his tune, literally. Since his debut album, he's moved into a faster-paced rock sound both in music and vocals. He's still undeniably Pete Yorn but with a bit more of an upbeat feeling.
A Birdmonster And A Starsailor Walk Into A Bar
So the last two days we heard seven bands. And that was a Sunday and Monday night! Our ears are tired. Not that you care. Where the hell were you, anyway? About 20 people showed up for the El Corazon show. It was all-ages, but only four under-21ers skipped Sunday-night homework to come. A bunch of Euro-sausage arrived late to catch Starsailor at the Crocodile. You know, with their Euro-pop t-shirts and orange sneakers. It was like a tale of two night clubs: one gritty (i.e., an actual leaking ceiling) and over-amplified, with a fiercely indie audience, and the other gritty (the ceiling has various kinds of sound baffles nailed to it) and over-amplified, with a used-to-know-someone-who-was-fiercely-indie crowd.
