PETA Protests Fish Toss with Half-Naked Glittery Fish

No shocker there, considering PETA's recent public angst, for AVMA's decision to hire--and, finally growing a pair, to keep--the iconic fish throwers of the Pike Place Fish Market for a team-building exercise at the conference.

Surprisingly, the above ad (NSFW, unless your work is burlesque- and/or violence-friendly) isn't part of PETA's "sea kittens" campaign, but it might as well be. Objectification of women? Check. Making fish "sexy"? Check. Somehow drawing a parallel between killing a person with harming a fish? Check. The PSA is from Dutch animal rights group Wakker Dier ("awake animal"), but we fully except PETA to recruit some local burlesque performers the next time they need to protest Pike Place Market fish-throwing.

PETA Pulls Dead Kitten Card Against Famed Fishmongers

PETA isn't a fan of the fishmongers using real fish as "props." They'd prefer rubber fish instead. Now, a reasonable person might point out that the fish they use don't have feelings to be bruised, they're dead. But in the realm of sea kittens, reason is scarce.

Yup'ik: Impoverished Servants of the Noble Salmon

The Yukon keta salmon carpaccio comes on a frosty plate, thinly sliced, with fennel and red onion salad, drizzled with lemon oil and smoked sea salt. In the glass, chilled Willamette Valley Vineyards pinot gris. Sublime.

PETA Sea Kittens Expire on Pike Street

PETA is concerned that fish aren't lovable enough for people to stop eating them, so they have cooked up the "sea kitten" campaign to reframe the argument for vegetarianism. Today a group of them were downtown raising consciousnesses--primarily that of males with camera phones, we're going to guess. We don't particularly care for fish sticks, but if they plan on messing with the tuna on our salade niçoise, we have a problem.

In early April, alarmed Seattleites began spotting pigeons walking and flying around downtown with blow darts impaling their heads and necks. Quickly dubbed "zombie pigeons," the creepy story was closely followed by another Seattle blog. Today animal rights group PETA announced they are offering a $2,000 reward for any information leading to the arrest of the pigeon sniper.
