What are you doing tonight? Because the Seattlest News Team is going to be drinking and schmoozing. Because it's Election Night, and that's what you do. But where to do it? Below is a list of who is partying, and where. And, for your reading pleasure (and because you scrappy lot need it), we're also included tips on what to wear to fit in and make sure you don't get cut off by 7:30.
Tonight's Election Parties: Who, What, Where (And What to Wear)
Stalk of the Town: New Year's Eve Edition
MvB can't decide if he's heading out early or late, but at some point he'll be at Uber Tavern drinking an assortment of "very rare" beers and snacking on Swedish meatballs.
Stalk Of The Town
She may still have far too much work to do this weekend, but Kim will emerge from her cocoon for two very important shows. Tonight, it's Sera Cahoone at a secret, undisclosed location and Kim refuses to spill the beans. Continuing the vaguely country theme, she'll end the weekend Sunday night at Chop Suey with the lovely and talented Star Anna.
Can't Miss It: Weekend Edition, Oct. 31-Nov 2
THIS, OUR TOWN OF HALLOWEEN: Finally, we have reached the one day of the year when it's actually suggested that you gorge on candy and dress up like someone else! Check out Halloween party options over at The Stranger, and nod to the past by reading up on the history of this haunted holiday over at the History Channel's beautiful H-Ween minisite. This is Halloween! This is Halloween!
Get Out Tonight: Thuper Tuethday Eventh
This Seattlest will be heading to a private party tonight, where we will celebrate among our favorite people the fact that Super Tuesday is FINALLY here. But, if you're looking for somewhere more out-on-the-town to get your drink on and watch the returns trickle in, and pancakes aren't your bag, here's the guide for you. Most of these events start at 5pm, and they're all free. Go America!
Ballard’s New “Cantina”: Chicken Fried Flop
Seattlest isn’t really a discriminating diner. We don’t have a sophisticated palate. We don’t demand impeccable service. If we get what we order, the food is reasonably priced and tasty, and the wait staff leans friendly, we’re content. We do, however, expect near-perfection from new restaurants. And fair, unbiased criticism from those who evaluate them. After reading a “first look” review of new Ballard eatery Austin Cantina, and subsequently eating there Saturday night with our chicken fried steak-loving friend, we felt duped on both counts.
Soaping The Kinko's Fountain Is New Seattle Pastime
We were driving down Broadway at noon and spotted huge puffballs of soapy bubbles blowing across the street from the fountain in front of the Kinko's. Saturday night, Seattle Metblogs reports, there was a whole "foam party." Plus, a nearby resident tells us the fountain was red foam this morning. That's three things, and three things is, scientifically speaking, a trend. But we also have back-up evidence gleaned from the internet: "Foam Parties are the newest craze among Teens and College Students!" Everyone, foam on.
The Joggers: Your Shop Teacher's In a Band
Last week we toughed it out through the chilly night and made our way to the Crocodile to see The Joggers, hailing from Portland. While it filled out over the course of the evening, Seattlest was still one of few willing to brave the elements, leaving much of Seattle to miss what was a very good show, highlighted by the hijinks of a few intoxicated audience members.
Yo, Yo, Yo Kids, The Times is the Wackzilliest Fo' Sho'...Boy
The Seattle Times editorial page--proving that it is out of touch, even by 2000 standards:
Breaking: Video Games Popular In Seattle
For some reason our collegiate system places very few demands on the time of its participants. Undergrads may not believe this, aspiring undergrads couldn't be convinced of it, but post-college types generally admit that those five years were scheduled pretty lightly. Not that there weren't commitments. Parties had to be attended. Frisbees had to be thrown. Bongs have evolved, but they have yet to smoke themselves. And there's no better environment for game playing than the residence hall. Bar none.
Redbull Gives Seattle Wings
In another case of The Man doing something right, Red Bull has invaded Seattle, not to actively sell their overly-caffeinated wares, but to educate and showcase a crop of truly worldwide talent. Seattle is lucky enough to join such cities as Berlin, Dublin, Sao Paolo, and Cape Town as this year's host city for the Red Bull Music Academy, a five week program that brings a truly international mix of beat-enthusiasts together to learn about the historical, technical, and networking aspects of the music industry.
