Cascadia's new cocktail menu (now that we've dispensed with Big City interlopers) includes a classic called Satan's Whiskers, a combination of gin (high-end Plymouth, ideally), sweet vermouth, dry vermouth, orange juice, Grand Marnier and (very important) orange bitters. All ingredients we're very fond of, so let's go for it.

While you are now officially unable to see Hootie and the Blowfish this weekend in Roslyn, WA (get well soon, Hoots), next week offers a great show at the High Dive. And it's on a Wednesday night, so you don't have to contend with the mongrel hordes and/or white-capped frat boys that inhabit the Fremont environs every weekend.

Last March, we invited ourselves along on a friend’s visit home to Ireland. We had been once before, but this time we were fortunate enough to have the lovely and talented Sarah FitzGibbon and her enormous Irish family as guides.

It's 4:30 in the morning and Jim Tuttle wakes from a dead sleep to the sound of his alarm clock. Though he's had a full night's rest, it seems like he went to sleep only minutes ago. He gets up anyway and ambles to the kitchen for some strong black tea.

Sometimes after a hard week at work, we turn on some Iron & Wine or Simon & Garfunkel and kick up our feet. Other weeks, we like to crank the Loverboy's "Everybody's Working for the Weekend" and RAWK.
