Last month, four-fifths of Pearl Jam touted their own Obama-song, unofficially signaling the band's endorsement of the (delegate) leading Democrat. Unofficially, because Eddie Vedder wasn't involved. Then Ralph Nader—Eddie's favorite former candidate—joined the presidential race. Would the frontman split from his bandmates or maintain political solidarity?

Permit us to bloviate some on the death of David Halberstam today in a car crash, which is utter bullshit considering that the guy reported from fricking Vietnam and he dies in a traffic accident in San Mateo (the car that hit him driven by, in a terrible irony, a Berkeley journalism student) (actually, I'm an idiot, his driver was a Berkeley student, so there's no irony, just terribleness).

We'll just come right out and say it: World Trade Center is not as bad as we expected. But then again, we thought it'd be baaaaad. Oliver Stone + Nicolas Cage + a weighty topic = a recipe for disaster. Seattlest went to a screening primarily to see just how bad it could be, but unexpectedly, we smirked a lot less in this film than in United 93. And that's even taking into account WTC's terrible youth-skewed marketing (the Coldplay-soundtracked TV ads and the movie's cringetastic profile on MySpace), as well as the conservative-baiting advertising care of the same PR group that swift-boated Kerry.

On Tuesday evening, Seattlest saw United 93 so you don't have to. Because really, who in the hell is eager to watch this particular film? Even with free admission, the theater was pretty empty.

Eric Bogosian is a jack of all trades. That's the feeling we get from taking a gander at his IMDB profile and his website's biography/list of works. Ah, but who the f*** is Eric Bogosian anyways? Good question, albeit one that has already been asked elsewhere. He's a playwright, having authored five full-length plays and six full-length solo works, as well as an actor and a screenwriter. In fact, he adapted his two best known plays, Talk Radio and SubUrbia, for the screen---films that were directed by Oliver Stone and Richard Linklater, respectively. Not bad, Bogosian.
