Brand new year, same familiar venue: Seattlest Trivia returns to the Old Pequliar tonight, with Seattlest James hosting.

Cooper's quiz is scheduled for 8:45 Tuesday nights, though last night's kicked off at 9:00. It's 40 questions, uncategorized. Teams trade answer sheets for scoring. After about 15-20 minutes the host announces results. That's a longish delay, but it's a well-paced quiz overall.

But if you can convince one to join your team, all the better.

Unlike rock gods, athletic heroes, or Warren Beatty, quiz hosts don't get groupies. (Not that we'd do anything with groupies, thoughts of our wife prompt us to add.)

More details? We're hosting the pub quiz tonight at the Old Pequliar in Ballard. It is our sincere hope and belief that this week's quiz is easier than the last time we hosted, but we could always be rudely surprised, we hope.

Seattlest James took a time-out from showering the Nickels administration with Gwen Stefani tickets and El Gaucho gift certificates to host the quiz last night at the Old Pequliar.

Results of the experiment: Last night 19 teams played the quiz at the Old Pequilar. If we'd been playing under classic $5/team rules, that would've been a pot of $190. Since we expanded the maximum team size to 6 and switched to $1/person, we ended up with a pot of $168 (84 players, pot matched by the OP). We ask you: is the smaller prize pool worth it?

We admit, one statue of an ancient Greek philosopher looks a lot like another, so picking Plato instead of Socrates in our "identify the alleged seducer of youth from the picture" round was a little cruel. Regardless, you all did very, very well, with the average team correctly identifying 7.77 pedophiles out of 10.

A record-setting 20 teams competed in Seattlest trivia at the Old Pequilar last night. The winning team scored 64.5 points (out of 80) and toook home $150. We'll post complete results this afternoon.

Tuesday night, Seattlest decided to ratchet up the difficulty level on the quiz at the Old Pequilar. And we think that worked well. We heard bitching, but it was good, brain-smacking bitching, not lynch-the-quiz-host bitching.
