- During an election season that touted change and tolerance, the passage of Proposition 8 in California is a painful reminder that intolerance and hatred still have electoral support in this country. Saturday is a national day of protest against Proposition 8, and the Seattle protests begin at Volunteer Park at 10:30 a.m.
- West Seattle Blog is wondering if any of these stolen items belong to you.
- Speaking of theft, the gentleman in these video stills definitely chose the wrong house in Mt. Baker to break into... i.e. the house fully wired with surveillance video cameras.

- MyBallard has the exclusive: the beloved Archie McPhee's is leaving Ballard.
- While normally a sentence with puppies can be nothing but delightful, Lights & Sirens managed to write one that is the absolute opposite: "Parkland man who was mauled by puppies dies."
- Coyotes are not your cat's friend. Sadly, Capitol Hill Seattle has reported the death of another adored pet by coyotes on the hill to remind us.
Happy Anniversary, Archie McPhee's
Sub Pop wasn't the only iconic local business to celebrate a big anniversary this week. Archie McPhee's—the one-stop shop for all things rubber chicken, bacon, and fun-related—celebrated 25 years of business yesterday. The quintessential Seattle store marked the occasion with a sidewalk sale and a serenade from a few of Seattle's own Rat City Roller Girls. Here's to another 25 years of devil duckies, wind-up librarians, yodeling pickles, and whatever wonderful impish toys those crazy kids come up with next. We hope it's just as successful and fun as the first 25.
Denny's Demolished
The is-it-or-isn't-it debate over the historical and aesthetic importance of the old Ballard Denny's was ended today with a backhoe. With none of the pomp and circumstance of the discussion surrounding the building's meaning and importance to Ballard, a backhoe began clawing into the building this morning.
Ballard Denny's to Face Demolition Despite Landmark Status
It was just two months ago that the city's Landmarks Preservation Board made a controversial ruling that declared the old Denny's in Ballard a local historic landmark. For those two months, the old building has sat empty behind chain link fences, gaining layers of graffiti and gathering dust. Just this Sunday, Seattlest was driving past the abandoned building when our good friend and passenger asked, "So what are they going to do with that old Denny's anyways?" We just shrugged and shook our heads.
Sunset Bowl's Last Weekend
The end is near for Sunset Bowl and its patrons. The local bowling alley, which has been open for over half a century, is set to close its doors April 13th. (Officially 1a.m. on Monday morning.) So take the time this weekend to say goodbye and get in a few last games at the old Sunset lanes. Don't be surprised to see a few more teary eyes than bleary drunk ones this weekend. It is a sad day indeed.
