A few years back, we braved a soccer match between two top flight teams in Buenos Aires. A 'super-classico' as they call it. Barbed wire and riot police ringed the field and more than once a cannon was fired. The tension was palpable. Early in the match, the visiting goalkeeper was hit in the head with what the papers later reported was a keychain. Bleeding, the goalkeeper was stitched up on the sidelines and his head was wrapped up Frankenstein style. Later, with the game scoreless, the visiting team was awarded a penalty shot. The coach waved at the goalkeeper, and as the home crowd lost their collective minds, the goalkeeper trotted down, took the shot, scored, then proceeded to jog back to his net, flipping off the crowd the entire length of the field. He spent the rest of the night tucked under his goal, with a big grin, we imagine.

Who is the best quarterback in the state? Matt Hasselbeck? We don't think so. Jake Locker? Sorry Husky fans. You are only half right.

Yesterday was a tale of two halves for the Washington State Cougars. Up against a tough No. 13 seed in Winthrop, the No. 4 seed Cougars were struggling at the half-way point tied 29-29. Then something clicked…Wazzu tightened up on defense, started taking quality shots and, 20 minutes later, the Cougs were moving on to the second round of the NCAA tournament with a 71-40 victory.

Sunday. Usually, a quiet, contemplative day in the Blogosphere. But not here in the Ist-a-Verse. Nonono! Just look below and see all of the wild and crazy stuff our staffs are up to.

Going into last weekend, the Huskies have shown that they can't beat arrogant fly boys or whiny dirty hippies. After Notre Dame trounced them 36-17 on Saturday, you can now add Catholics to that list. However, they do very well against insane weathermen.

While we haven't got anything against Notre Dame (nor little fellas with big hearts), we don't much care for local barbershop chain Rudy's. Seattlest has never gotten a cut or color there---we already know where our hair loyalties lie---but even our brief encounters with Rudy's staff have not been good. Look: we've got a very low tolerance for snide, hipper-than-thou attitude from people who spend their days sculpting fauxhawks and sweeping up hair. Though it should be mentioned that somehow the staff at the Phinney Ridge location is the exception to the rudeness rule, overall, Rudy's customer service is about as good as their website...which is to say it's terrible.

Evidently, the Husky football team's 1-10 season caused many fans to cancel their season tickets. So for the first time in Seattlest's memory (which stretches back to the Michael Jackson days), the Huskies are offering reserved ticket game plans.

This year the first day of the NCAA tournament occurs on St. Patrick's Day, so if there was ever a time to watch the games in a bar, this is it. Unfortunately, neither the Notre Dame Fighting Irish nor the Tulane Green Wave made the tourney. But our hometown Huskies did. In fact, they are one of the favorites. Their first-round game is today at noon. The tournament's first games begin at 9 am, and several local bars are opening early to accomodate basketball and liquor fans:
