LOVIN HADESTOWN: Someone once said you can tell a person by the company she keeps. If that were true, we wouldn’t have to hear a note of Anais Mitchell’s music before we decided we liked her. Mitchell’s new album, the music from her folk opera Hadestown, stars Bon Iver, Ani DiFranco, The Haden triplets, and The Low Anthem’s Ben Knox Miller -- a convincing list of guests. Of course kept company counts for only so much, and we sort of have more of a thing for Mitchell’s stellar songwriting style, at times delicate, often strong, and always soulful. She based Hadestown on the story of Orpheus and Eurydice and created a fresh, folksy take on the Greek classic. Mitchell’s a gem, but if you needed more convincing, the excellent Jeffrey Foucalt is on the bill as well.
