Mt. Si's New Haircut Sucks

Logging operators with a sense for PR understand you want to hide the ugliness and destruction that is a clear cut from the most accessible view points. You'd think this applies to Mt. Si, the most visible and the first mountain you see heading east from the city on I-90.

We know how bad this whole crashing economy is. Really, we do. But every cloud has a silver lining, and we're pretty sure the sparkle you can see just past today's bankrupt financial giants and tanked WAMU stock is increased transit ridership translating into more routes and added runs on existing routes so you don't have to drive (or pay for gas) anymore.

Otter Falls is stunning. Truly breathtaking. A place which must be seen in person to be truly appreciated. Photos and flowery descriptions do very little for this place.

...and nobody escapes, does anyone really care?

All southbound lanes of Interstate 5 through downtown Seattle were closed earlier this afternoon while the State Patrol investigated an accident involving a tractor-trailer and several other vehicles at 1:54 p.m near the Mercer Street exit.

This weekend Mr. and Mrs. Seattlest drove out to North Bend to cut a Christmas tree down and haul it back to Seattle. No, we didn't hike up Si with an ax and harvest a sapling, although that does sound fun. There's a tree farm out there by the name of Crown Tree Farm. It was our first time getting a tree from anywhere other than those road-side dealies or the enclosures that pop up in big parking lots this time of year, or so we thought until we got on the phone with Dad in Illinois afterwards. "You don't remember when you and I and your brother went to cut down a Christmas tree?" he said. "So much for making childhood memories." We thought this was a Pacific Northwest thing, but apparently you can cut down your own Christmas tree even in the Midwest.

(This fall we are combining our love of the football and our dream of learning to cook. On Sunday morning, following a trip to a local farmer’s market/major supermarket chain, we will be preparing a meal from the city of the Seahawks opponent. Then at halftime we will throw our badly burned hands in the air and make hot dogs.)

Northwest Folklife Festival by pdgibson, from the Seattlest Flickr pool.

While those of us in central Seattle enjoyed a three-day weekend, 234,000 people, mostly on the Eastside, are looking at their fifth night without power, and PSE's telling some of them--mostly in eastern King County (Duvall, North Bend, etc...)--that they won't be back on the grid for days.

Episode six settles a longstanding real estate debate: Where would Burke and Cristina's minimalist condo exist in "real" life?

What's Seattlest doing this weekend? What isn't Seattlest doing this weekend?

Let’s face it. You are not Lance Armstrong. You're probably OK with that fact, and Seattlest is proud of you nonetheless. But, maybe you still got a little inspired during the Tour de France and ran out and bought yourself a road bike. A few spins out and back on the Burke Gilman trail and you’re ready for something more interesting? Try the Tour de Peaks this weekend.
