More Than You Ever Wanted To Know About KEXP

There's a great article in the Seattle Weekly (not a typo) this week about Seattlest's favorite little radio station that shines just a little bit of light into the previously dim corners of the station's management. You know about their DJs, their playlists, their events, their membership drives and their website. Did you know that KEXP is actually owned by someone, though? Actually, Seattlest did know that. We knew that the station belonged to the University of Washington, but it was still interesting for us to see the names of all the governing board and advisory council members. We Also Read the Weeklies: PanzerKardinal Edition

Last week we guessed that this was going to be a big week for papal comment in the weeklies, and we're glad to see we weren't wrong. We were hoping for some fresh perspectives, or maybe some Seattle angle to the commentary, but maybe that was expecting a lot. Knute Berger in "Mossback" was the first to weigh in on the Catholic boss and the whole "the Vatican isn't a Democracy so why don't we go invade it" joke is tired and not funny, but we were surprised and delighted when he called out the secular right at the end of the column. If Ever There Were a Man in Need of Arrest

Keith D. Gilbert, by all accounts the scourge of Roosevelt, was arrested in that neighborhood early Tuesday by federal agents. Gilbert is a famous racist and promotor of some Aryan thing or other who has served time for a previous plot to explode Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., but he's better known in Roosevelt for being a thug landlord and neighbor who repeatedly threatens, sues, and intimidates people in the area. more ›
