As we wrote earlier, the Huskies play Cal-Berkeley tonight in the first round of the Pac Ten Tournament. They'll be doing it without an injured Jon Brockman, seen by many as the team's best player. However, is he any good? Dusty (Yes): Brockman owned Kevin Love at Hec-Ed, and if you say “but Artem Wallace guarded him” then maybe HE should be conference player of the year. AR-TEM! AR-TEM! AR-TEM.…MVP! MVP! MVP! I’m not......

Ever notice how Luke Ridnour gets the loudest applause at Key Arena? It’s kind of strange since the 5-year NBA vet is one of the worst Sonics point guards to actually start or get playing time in team history. Laying claim to the lowest field goal percentage among a miserable cast of point guards on one of the worst teams in the league should be a recipe for early retirement; Ridnour even trails our......

You'd assume that the few people who showed up at Key Arena tonight were hoping from a show from Kobe Bryant. They got one. Bryant scored a season-high 48 points, including the final three baskets of the game to get his Lakers the overtime win. The Sonics were up four points with under two minutes to go, and with Kurt Thomas at the line for two shots. Thomas missed both, and then Bryant hit ridiculous......

So you're gonna look at that score and think this game was a blowout, but the Sonics--despite a career-high 39 from Dwight Howard--were actually within one point with as late as 4:22 left. They got there--despite having been down 15 at the start of the 4th--because P.J. Carlesimo finally figured out a way to make Kevin Durant an asset on defense instead of a liability--by having him front Howard while Kurt Thomas kept between Howard......

True Hoop's been running a fascinating serial written by Gregory Dole, who was Leandro Barbosa's interpreter when he worked out with NBA teams before the 2003 draft. Part IV talks about Barbosa's work out with the Sonics, wherein he wowed the top of the Sonics' org chart, including then-poobah Howard Schultz. Barbosa had a great workout, hitting his shots, blowing past defenders, and unleashing a nasty crossover that caused Kirk Hinrich to fall on his......

Nick Collison gets a few double-doubles and suddenly your sports section is filled with articles like "Collison excelling front and center". Now, since we are ignoring the Sonics, we haven't actually seen this new, improved Nick Collison, but we're willing to bet that his production has more to do with playing time than with any Great Leap Forward. We've long called this phenomenon of a crummy player accumulating impressive stats "The Christian Laettner Theory." Remember......

Since we are trying our dangest to fall in love with the only remaining NBA team in the Northwest, the one with all those Seattle connections, we have mercifully been spared following the Sonics this season. However, we couldn't help but read Percy Allen's article in the Times this morning, which claims that unless the team starts winning by the end of the month, then the coach and some of the players will be leaving......

Before we get to the Sonics, let's start off with some humor, courtesy of the Seattle Times' consistenly suicide-inducing "Sideline Chatter." Andy Liney, the man inside the "Donny Dog" mascot costume for the Doncaster Rovers soccer team, was denied access to the playing field for the team's game at Huddersfield Town, England, because police intelligence labeled him a security risk. The cops obviously thought he might be a fleaing felon. Question: Is there anyone--anywhere--who would......

In the view of Sonics players, excellent three-point-shooting is the team's best chance to beat heavily-favored San Antonio in their best-of-seven Western Conference Semifinal playoff series. In game one, however, two of their top marksmen, Ray Allen and Vladimir Radmanovic sprained their ankles. Had the Sonics won, it might have been called a Pyrrhic victory. Instead, not only was their offense crippled, but they suffered a humiliating 22-point loss. Not so much a Pyrrhic victory......
