On KJR-AM this morning, departing Seahawks head coach Mike Holmgren told interviewer Mitch Levy that in the past year, he had changed his mind in regard to his upcoming retirement, and that his overtures to delay his retirement for at least another year were rebuffed by Seahawks management. Holmgren specifically cited former Packer Green Bay Packer QB Brett Favre who had decided to return to football after announcing his retirement, saying "sometimes we change our minds." Holmgren also admitted that this season's woes will most certainly increase the likelihood that he'll return to coaching. Said commentator Hugh Millen afterward: "It is pretty clear that he's been pushed out." Shame on you, Tim Ruskell. Update: We imagine Holmgren will be cooking up a healthy dose of revenge very soon. Served in one of these, of course.

We are sitting in front of the TV watching the Issaquah-Skyline 4A championship game, still working on a heaping plate of leftovers from last weekend. (Does turkey have an expiration date?) This game was originally scheduled for Saturday, but was moved to accommodate Bellevue, who plays Union in the 3A final. Bellevue played a rescheduled game earlier this week after their bus rolled over on the way to last week's game. Here...grab a plate.

The Seattle Seahawks lost 18-17 tonight to the San Diego Chargers in their third game of the pre-season. The Hawks started fast with Charlie Frye connecting with Nate Burleson for a 68-yard TD pass, giving them an early 7-0 lead. The Hawks led late into the fourth quarter, when former Husky DB Omare Lowe was flagged for interference on a questionable call in the end zone, putting the ball on the one-yard line. The Chargers went into the end zone three plays later and then made the two-point conversion to take the lead for good. QB Charlie Frye left the game after a late hit in the fourth quarter. T.J. Duckett had a solid game at RB, while Justin Forsett struggled in the race for the final roster spot at that position.
