It's not often that we can tell just from glancing at the stage that we'll like a play, but with the Seattle Rep's The Imaginary Invalid, we felt like great things were in store the moment we caught sight of the silly, sumptuous velvet hatbox of a set. (Runs through March 22; tickets $15-$59, $10 for 25-and-under.)

Can't Miss It: Saturday
Tonight the Seattle Symphony gives you Dvořák's "New World" Symphony, which we love, but then so does everyone else so it's not a remarkable that we do. It's a "locals-only" evening, with Gerard Schwarz at the podium, and the Symphony's ace up its sleeve, horn-slinger John Cerminaro. Cerminaro can make that brass curtsy and serve tea if he wants. Why one time in Oklahoma...but we digress.
Film Serieseses
Now that we're well into the new year, movies can go back to sucking. Sure, there's a few Oscar-worthy films that have yet to open in Seattle (see: The New World, Transamerica, Match Point). But for the most part, films released in January blow big-time (don't see: Grandma's Boy, Tristan and Isolde, Last Holiday, Annapolis). Thankfully, there's an alternative to the schlock, in the form of two primo film series opening this week.
