Seattlest has always felt odd using the listening stations in music stores. We love 'em and--the purchased and downloaded ringtones of strangers on the bus not withstanding--still feel that they're the best way to check out new music. It's just kind of weird rocking out in a store with the cans on while other people around you browse the shelves, blissfully unaware of the epiphany you're having, or that in some small but significant way your life is changing. Good weird, but still weird.

Re-visiting Seattlest's Best of 2005
The middle of the year is approaching, so we think it's fair to give you an update on the folks we listed as creating some of the best tracks to come out of the area last year. For those of you who missed out the first time, here's a second chance to hear what the Pac NW is putting out into the world.
Mass Mvmnt Makes Midweek Merriment
There's nothing like a lack of information to build curiosity and suspense. Local label/collective Mass Mvmnt (read "Mass Movement") has taken that approach very much to heart, with only a trickle of information being released over the last year. The veil of secrecy is being removed tonight however, with a showcase at the War Room featuring almost their entire roster in celebration of new releases by FCS North and Time Promises Power.
K Syrah, Syrah
As we may have mentioned before, we love us some wine. While our tastes are biased against the lighter stuff (i.e., to paraphrase Kanye: Seattlest doesn't care about white wines), we loooooooove reds. We like them deep, dark, meaty and full-bodied with a smooth finish. All the better if they're stored in American oak barrels, which can give wine a nice nutty hint of baking spices.
This Week's Albums
most excited for the new White Stripes album as well as the EP by Black Mountain. We dislike the Black Eyed Peas and secretly wish the new Coldplay album had the same title as C-Murder's latest.
