Hatch Chiles:  Red, Green, or Christmas

While many Seattleites relish cool summer temperatures, chile addicts are looking to fire things up. Chile season begins in the summer and peaks in early September with the Hatch Chile Festival held in New Mexico. On Labor Day weekend, people from around the world gather in Hatch, the small town that hosts the annual event. As the scent of roasting chiles saturates the air, the only question to be considered is "Red or green?"

Boom! Governor Gregoire comes right out of the gate at the new legislative session with a new bill laying "the groundwork for concrete limits on greenhouse gas emissions beginning in 2012." And, in just four short (or long, depending on how you look at it) years, the bill "would give the state Department of Ecology the authority to regulate those emissions," reports the P-I.

We don't have a lot of parenting pet peeves. Little Miss Seattlest has already picked up our usual response to a lot of great debates: "Whatever."

The Huskies beat #6 Gonzaga last night, ending a seven-game losing streak to the Zags and proving that, despite losing three top scorers from last year, this year's Husky team is worthy of national attention.

As the governor’s race grinds into its sixtieth straight month, things are now in the hands of the courts, lawyers, party donors, and--of course--statistical work done by political science professors. The state Republicans are citing a recent report by two college professors which shows that Dino Rossi would have won the election by 100 votes if all those pesky ineligible voters were thrown out.

Over the weekend, the University of Washington men's basketball team advanced to the NCAA Tournament "Sweet 16" with a dominating win over Pacific. Their next game will be Thursday at 4:10 pm vs. Louisville in Albuquerque.
