THEATRE: Suzanne Morrison's one-woman show Yoga Bitch is the tonight's highlight at SPF 2-Sweatproof!, the solo performance festival ongoing at the Theatre Off Jackson. Morrison's show recounts her trip to Bali for a two-month yoga retreat that illustrates, if nothing else, that the path to inner peace and killer abs has some hairpin turns in it. We found a Yoga Bitch excerpt on YouTube and were persuaded to see the whole thing. 7pm //......

Kurt might be amused to learn that, since 2003, at least one jackass criminal has been using his social security number to make fraudulent purchases. Said jackass has apparently skimmed some £36 million—about 5,000 million US dollars these days—from the deceased rock star's estate. "Mr. Cobain" might have continued his spending spree had he not slipped up in 2007; his purchase of a $3.2 million New Jersey mansion drew the attention of Courtney Love.......

Oh, it's a rollicking time at Seahawks headquarters. Should be, the team's on a five-game winning streak. Head coach Mike Holmgren's certainly in the spirit; he's using his press conference to burn on his quarterback. Says Holmgren: "I worry about [Hasselbeck] when he runs. You guys ever see Gooney Birds landing on a lake?" Mike Holmgren, ladies and gentleman. He'll be appearing next week at the Chuckle Shack in Trenton, New Jersey. We have not......

"On October 1, when tickets went on sale for the Seattle premiere of Jersey Boys," the press release solemnly informs us, "all 5th Avenue Theatre box office records were broken." Obviously someones of a certain age miss their white doo wop. A big money-maker on Broadway, Jersey Boys is the story of Frankie Valli and The Four Seasons and how they ruled the airwaves between 1962 and 1967, on the strength of Valli's signature falsetto.......

A few weeks ago, singer/raconteur Jenny Owen Youngs was in town, playing at the High Dive the same time as the Fremont Bridge was being closed evenings, which led to our arriving mid-set in a state of high dudgeon. We decided to skip a half-assed review, and afterwards fired off some impertinent questions via email. We just heard back, and as you'll see, Jenny schools us a bit. Now we adore her even more. If......

When you allow a team to reach the century mark in the 3rd quarter, you aren't going to win a lot of games. Unless you're the 1979-80 San Antonio Spurs. The Sonics did enough on offense to win tonight: Eight guys scored in double figures, led by Delonte West's 17. But on defense...oy. Stromile Swift (the one Swift in the NBA who doesn't bring shame on his surname) put 24 on the Sonics, with putbacks,......

Last night, in the middle of the movie round, Seattlest officially became old. "What Canadian actor, who died in Mexico, appeared in seven movies directed by John Hughes, more than any other performer?" we asked. "Who's John Hughes?" we heard some people ask in response. The rebellious voice of your parent's youth, said our head. Occasionally we figure Seattlest Trivia should have some Seattle trivia in it, so we did a Seattle round. The......

We finally made the (arduous!) four-block trek down to the Frye to check out "Anxious Objects: Willie Cole's Favorite Brands." The exhibit highlights the last 20 years of Cole's work, heavy on the mixed media sculptures he's famous for. Cole takes ratty, disposable, everyday domestic objects and transforms them into pristine pieces that mimic symbols from South Asian and African art: scorched ironing boards become Domestic Shields, detached gas pump nozzles arc up from the......

As of this morning, queer couples in the state of Washington have about three new rights, which include, but are not limited to: 1. The right to spend time together. 2. The right to talk to each other's doctor. 3. The right to call each other "partner." Whoopdeedoo. We're not as excited about the new domestic partnership law that goes into effect today, as we are that, when you sign up, you get a......

German squirrels are roaming Berlin on a murderous rampage. Bears in New Jersey are breaking into people's homes for crack money. And some mysterious large-footed monster went and vandalized every. single. school bus. in the Renton school district.......

Austinist gets arty with an interactive guide to SXSW, loved some local art galleries and a new art exhibit and lamented the possible loss of "Friday Night Lights" production to New Mexico. Bostonist was happy they finally found an Anna Nicole Smith connection to their fair city and that an Apple Store was opening up. They were less happy that new rules have been established limiting underage shows and that their Governor is spending......

Let's take a look back at a week that raised this Zen koan: if Kevin Federline got into a wrestling ring with a wrestler, who would you root for? Austinist was in an entertainment state of mind as they covered the dickens out of the Austin Film Festival, depicted all the Big 12 football coaches as South Park characters, and interviewed Jose Gonzalez. Chicagoist talked about the passion as they bid adieu to Bell......

We'll just come right out and say it: World Trade Center is not as bad as we expected. But then again, we thought it'd be baaaaad. Oliver Stone + Nicolas Cage + a weighty topic = a recipe for disaster. Seattlest went to a screening primarily to see just how bad it could be, but unexpectedly, we smirked a lot less in this film than in United 93. And that's even taking into account......

We recently got an email from Bradford Bohonus over at VRSeattle that alerted us to the fact that he's updated the site with a new crop of that peculiar kind of wrap-around picture. The screen capture above of Cal Anderson park is not one of the new ones. We just really like that one. These are the new ones. For people who live in Seattle, these pictures are the next best thing to actually......

Trails.com has released their "Top 100 Trails of 2005" list, with the first Washington entry coming in at 19th out on Cougar Mountain. We're not trying to cry over spilled trail mix here, but the list seems awfully biased towards eastern routes. Honestly, not a single trail from Utah, a state that boasts a record-setting 5 national parks? Similarly, nothing broke the top 100 from Montana, either. But there were 4 from New Jersey,......

The Husky football team, helped by a Hail Mary touchdown pass to end the second half, became the first state school to win a Pac-10 game this season, beating Arizona 38-14. The Dawgs host the Apple Cup next Saturday. The Seahawks put a death lock on the NFC West, beating division rival St. Louis for the second time this season. Shawn Alexander scored three touchdowns, the last capping a five-and-a-half minute fourth quarter drive that......

While most of us spent our weekend doing yard work or screaming at inanimate objects, Mayor Nickels was at the U.S. Conference of Mayors in Chicago encouraging others to join the U.S. Mayors' Climate Protection Agreement. The agreement, which is essentially the Kyoto Protocol, has cities reducing greenhouse-gas emissions by 2012 in order to ease one of the causes of global warming. As we all know, global warming is apparently the reason that our June......

Our friend Erika, a recent transplant from New Jersey, doesn't have trouble making conversation with strangers at Seattle parties. She simply asks: "how's the band?" According to a statistic we just made up, 85% of Seattleites between the ages of 18 and 34 are in a band. And this incredible pressure on our nation's guitar makers may be responsible for a rash of local tree thefts. Western Washington big-leaf maples, prized by guitar and......

Seattlest's favorite local space elevator company got a straight-faced nod from the Post Intelligencer today in the form of an article in the business section of the paper. The LiftPort Group out of Bremerton is a group of companies working to build a carbon ribbon that will extend from an ocean platform up some 62,000 miles into space where a satellite will anchor it in orbit around the planet. An elevator car will lift materials......

Every once in a while, the stars align and a very very kind person in Seattlest's life gives us a wonderful gift: courtside Sonics tix. We decided to bring you, dear reader, along as well... First off, you enter Key Arena through a goofy VIP entrance. You get to walk past the players' parking lot (entertaining, if you like your ride pimped) and through a gauntlet of welcoming ushers. There's a coat check, a tableful......
