The Tour de Fat bicycle festival, sponsored by New Belgium Brewery, took place at Gasworks Park today. Naturally we bicycled over to see what it was all about. On the way, two guys in a pickup pulled up next to us and rolled down the window. Uh oh, we thought. "Hey, nice bike!" they yelled. "And nice shirt!" (We were wearing the cream of our Hawaiian shirt collection.) They gave us a thumbs up. Then......

In the wake of a brutal tussle between car and bicycle last weekend, it's good that New Belgium Brewing's Tour de Fat, the "traveling celebration of all things bicycle," arrives in town on Saturday, opposite the carbon-spewing, combustion engine worship-fest that is Seafair, what with the supersonic jets and souped-up motorboats. So for those who favor pedal-power over horsepower, you can show up at Gas Works Park at 9 a.m. to register yourself and your......

Elysian has recently started to increase their distribution (Adding the NY market earlier this month), and they have smartly found a way to increase their production without much of a capital investment. They just announced a partnership with New Belgium Brewing, which will allow Elysian to brew batches of their standard lineup on New Belgium's larger brewing system. In return, New Belgium will use the Elysian brewing systems to brew small-batch and experimental beers,......

When it comes to good beer, brews made in Belgium are usually the cream of the crop. So, no one should be surprised that American brewers often try to emulate their success by brewing their own versions of Belgian styles. And you know what? Some of them are fantastic (And some, not so much...) Starting this Friday at The Collins Pub, they'll be rotating about 15 taps of Belgian-style goodness brewed right here in the......

This Seattlest had some family visiting this weekend and felt it was his duty to show them some of his favorite beer spots in town, even if they could probably care less. There were quite a few beers of note that were on tap and should still be around. We also found a few bottles of Lost Abbey Judgement Day at Esquin Wine this weekend. We didn't realize the Seattle market was getting this......

Oh boy, oh boy, oh boy...with the recent trend of oak aging beer, we were pumped to hear about Brouwer's Big Wood Fest starting this Thursday at the Fremont bar. Brouwer's will clear their taps to have 40+ wood aged beers pouring this weekend. They won't discriminate; Belgian style sours, big, burly stouts and everything in-between will be lined up side-by-side. What is wood aged beer you ask? It is exactly what wine makers......

This upcoming Saturday marks the 20th anniversary of the annual Phinney Neighborhood Association Winter Beer Taste. 26 different breweries will be there to pour some of their outstanding Winter beers to get us ready for the upcoming season. Admission includes 10 samples and are $27 for the public in advance, and tickets at the door are $30. We've been told that this event usually sells out in advance, so it sounds like a good......

Dive bars are not supposed to have good beer, right? Well, this is not exactly a dive - but it is definitely a little unpolished compared to most good beer bars in the city. That is just fine with Seattlest. Duck Island is located just up Aurora on the north side of Greenlake, right next to Beth's Cafe and in the same 2 block strip as Kangaroo & Kiwi and Uber Tavern. The Beer:......

Sunday afternoon turned out to be a terrific time to hit the Fremont Oktoberfest: at one o' clock it was still gray and cloudy and the crowds hadn't arrived. For $5 extra, we ended up with a total of eight tokens, good for eight 5-oz. pours. Our initial plan was to drink anything that was named "Oktoberfest," but there were only two Oktoberfest beers that weren't tapped out (or called Beck's): Lang Creek's Oktoberfest and......

Well, sorry we couldn't let you know earlier. But, Seattlest had the pleasure of attending another incredible beer dinner this weekend. This one took place at The Collins Pub in downtown seattle and featured the impressive beers of New Belgium Brewing from Colorado; presented by the big brew man himself, head brewer Peter Bouckaert and company. If you do not know The Collins, it is a wonderful pub just on the edge of Pioneer......
