B Means Below Average

The National Weather Service says we've got three months of three-dog nights to go. March highs, by the way, were about 7 degrees colder than average. (H/t to the Daily Weekly)

Western Washington is on official flood watch this morning, announced the National Weather Service. Another storm is on its way in, but this time around, the temperatures won't be cold enough to turn precipitation into snow. Now would be a great time to make sure your outside drains are unplugged and to move your photo albums in the basement to high ground, just in case the flood watch turns into a flood warning and the flood warning turns into an honest flood.

How disappointing. Now the National Weather Service is saying the winter storm is shifting north and will bypass Seattle. OH, CANADA!!! However, they do say that "an inch or two of slushy snow is possible Friday night," which gives a lie to their promise that we won't see any "disruptive" snow. Pretty much any snow disrupts the hell out of Seattle traffic. Now we bait-and-switch you with this footage of last year's big snow:

While we usually have to wait until at least November (and sometimes all season) for snow, it looks like winter is getting an early start this year in the mountains. The National Weather Service is warning of a strong storm with a "vigorous cold front" hitting the Pacific Northwest tomorrow, and they're predicting snowfall in elevations above 4,000 feet. That means Stevens Pass (but not Snoqualmie) may see some accumulation as early as tomorrow, which is great news for eager skiers awaiting a season of snow and not-so-great news for drivers heading east.

Seattlest keeps waiting and waiting for the right weekend to head out for our inaugural hike of 2008. There are few things we love more than hiking through the cool misty forests of Cedars and Doug Firs; the monotony of one-foot-in-front-of-the-other up a mountain brings us a zen calm. After driving through the mountains for Memorial Day weekend, we were feeling especially itchy to head out on the trail. But we are going to have to wait, just like every other eager would-be hiker.

If you thought snow in late March was strange, just wait till you try snow in late April! The National Weather Service says Western Washington should expect a cold weekend, with high temperatures venturing into the low 40s. They've forecasted 1 to 2 feet of snow in the Cascades over the weekend and lowland snow showers at elevations as low as 1,000 feet. So last Saturday it was pushing 80 degrees, and this Saturday we should expect snow showers? Great news for skiers who don't want to let go of an epic season. Not so great for the rest of us who are clamoring for a little springtime sunshine.

The National Weather Service had released a high wind warning for Seattle. It hasn't gotten quite that bad yet.

--Gawker likes to point out hilarious writing every once in awhile and we're pretty sure they'd have something to say about "After the National Weather Service announced it was asking the public to name last month's windstorm, it got blown away by the number of entries."

What did we do? The rainiest month ever and paralyzing snowstorm weren't punishment enough, so God Holiday is sending this windstorm at us.

Seattlest whimpered in defeat from the sanctuary of our covers this morning when the radio announced another 10 straight days of rain. Many Seattle residents escape this biblical rainy season each year by absconding to balmier, drier climes. We have previously scoffed at you as a bunch of sissies, but this deluge has eroded our derision. Uncle.
