he 1960 Huskies, who will be honored en masse Saturday when the Dawgs play #1 USC, lost only one game and beat #1 Minnesota in the Rose Bowl, the only time the UW's beaten a #1 team. Husky historian W. Thomas Porter recently finished a book about that 1960 team, A Football Band of Brothers: Forging the University of Washington's First National Championship. It's quite a tale--Husky coach Jim Owens, who'd coached under legendary taskmaster......

Florida may have won their second straight National Championship last night, however, there will be no three-pete in Gainsville. Once National Coach of the Year Tony Bennett leads his Washington Huskies back on the court in November, they might as well mail the trophy directly to Montlake. UPDATE: According to Sports Illustrated, Bennett's Huskies will have their work cut out for them. In their hella early 2007-2008 rankings they place three Pac-10 teams in......

Back before college football got completely screwed up, the Huskies were a national power. You laugh, but it's true. They even won a National Championship in 1991, and the greatest player on that team was Steve Emtman. In fact, he was the probably the best player in college football that season. However, since defensive lineman don’t win Heismans, he settled for the Outland Trophy and Lombardi Award. Emtman was the overall first pick in the......

We are wrong a lot, and on Saturday evening it was a great feeling to have this fact proven once again. Last week we picked the beloved Huskies to lose the Apple Cup; however, we forgot that they would be playing the Cougars, which means that even a crappy U-Dub team has a very good chance at a win. As Emmett Watson pointed out in his Friday column, the Cougars have only won 29 of......

College football coaches, who gave the Huskies their only National Championship back in 1991, have bestowed upon the current team a very special honor—Also Receiving Voteites. A glance under the most recent USA Today Coaches Football poll shows that the Huskies have received three votes. Meaning some coach voted them 25th and another one voted them 24th, three coaches voted them 25th, or a single coach voted them 23rd. Either way Ohio State's Jim......

We love Husky football, even when the team is in the midst a "victory deficient stage," we still get excited for games against Top 20 teams. Which is why we are clearing our schedule to watch the purple and gold get absolutely stomped in Norman tomorrow when they face the number 10 ranked Oklahoma Sooners. The game will be a rematch of the 1985 Orange Bowl in which the Huskies and the Sooner Schooner beat......

Seattlest continues our quest for sailing opportunities in the city. Most recently we have been racing sailboats at Shilshole Marina as part of a crew of low key sailors every Monday evening. Although a collision in this last race forced us out of the competition, we are still thankful we did not sail on Sunday. Sunday was the J24 National Championship race from Shilshole, coinciding with high winds up to 34 knots. This resulted......
