So far, we've been absolutely blown away by the shows City Arts Fest have brought us. Incredible bands at all our favorite venues throughout the city. We knew it was going to be interesting, but they've lived up to the hype and then some. The Weepies show last night was heart-breakingly amazing and the Hip Hop fiesta at the Paramount on day one was epic. There's still a couple days left. With Blitzen Trapper and the Vaselines tonight and a full day of shows tomorrow, we're keeping busy. Here's what we think you should head to on Saturday.
City Arts Fest Home Stretch: Day Four
Stalk Of The Town
Seattlest's wine guy, Ronald, kicks off the weekend by hosting a $75, 5-course, 5-wine wine dinner Friday at Portfolio, the dining room of the Art Institute's culinary academy. (Note: 20 percent discount to Seattlest readers; call 206-239-2363 for reservations.) Saturday night will find him, Barolo in hand, at Mitchelli's for a farewell toast to the venerable "Trat," closing later this month after 32 years in Pioneer Square.
Bumbershoot Saturday in Words
In terms of music, Saturday was definitely our biggest day at Bumbershoot. We spent most of the time running from one partial set to another. Along the way we caught Thao Nguyen and her backing band, the Get Down Stay Down. Thao's breathy voice is much bigger than the tiny girl it comes out of, and with her solid, clap-happy set, she managed to be energetic (for a singer-songwriter) without verging into crazy territory (even if she did almost perform one song twice).
Saturday's Bumbershoot Best Bets
As an all-knowing, all-seeing hivemind, Seattlest has your Bumbershoot recommendations handled. If you're going to brave the crowds, bathroom lines, and ever-present corporate tents, you should at least be equipped with the right kind of inspiration to make it all worth your while.
