Countdown in Photos #11: The Quiet Life

Countdown in Photos #11: The Quiet Life

Day eleven in the photo countdown heads south once again to MusicFest Northwest. It held so many great moments for Morgen that she can't help but choose more than a few shots from this event. Today is a lesser known Portland-based group dubbed The Quiet Life, but they made quite an impression on our photographer. more ›

Sasquatch Gallery: Moondoggies, S. Carey and Canadian Superstar Sam Roberts

             + 0 more

For your Sunday afternoon pleasure, we're dropping some fantastic shots of Sunday morning's happenings at Sasquatch. The Moondoggies never disappoint, we're way too lucky to have these guys as locals, and it's about time that the rest of the world started recognizing them as well. They were also among the locals that took part in MTV's mini-series faux documentary Five Dollar Cover. more ›

Sasquatch Gallery: Sneak Peek Day 3

Countdown in photos: Day 29

One of the shining stars this year in Seattle music is the Moondoggies. They're the musical version of soul mates to the Maldives, another amazing local mainstay, and will most likely make quite a mark as their "other half" has done. more ›

Gallery: Cave Singers, Moondoggies and Lovesick Empire

             + 3 more

What better way to spend your night than with good company and great music. That's how we spent our friday night at the Showbox. The lineup couldn't have been better with a brand-spanking new band Lovesick Empire, the Moondoggies, and the Cave Singers rounding out the evening. We weren't sure what to think of Lovesick Empire. There was basically zero web-presence representing the band and had no clue what to expect. The only evidence that they even existed before the show was an interview over at Seattle Show Gal. We were happily surprised by what we heard especially from the lead singer as she really put her soul into the music as you can see in the gallery shots below. It was a combination of blues and rock with a little pop thrown in for good measure. We especially loved their play on "Indian Summer" by Beat Happening also covered recently by Ben Gibbard (though we may be wrong, it sounded very similar with identical lyrics thrown in occasionally). If you have the chance to check them out, we recommend it. We're hoping to nab their EP and have a review up soon. Relive, in reality or vicariously, through the photos below. It was an incredible show. You can also check out even more shots at the flickr collection. more ›

Moondoggies and Cave Singers Stomp the Floor at Showbox Tonight

Moondoggies and Cave Singers Stomp the Floor at Showbox Tonight

There seems to be a new grassroots movement lately toward, well... bluegrass/newgrass rock music. Now I'm sure you're thinking, as were we, that bluegrass is for your dad or grandpa. Honestly about six months ago we would have agreed with you wholeheartedly. No matter how many records people would play for us, we simply weren't convinced. It just wasn't relateable... at the time. Flash forward to the present and we find ourselves in love with talented bluegrass-style groups like the Maldives, Moondoggies, Cave Singers, Trampled by Turtles, Blitzen Trapper, and even arguably The Builders and the Butchers and Decemberists. more ›

Seattle's Top Shows of November

Seattle's Top Shows of November

Let's be honest: November is a good month for the beginnings of shitty weather and holiday stress. We have few memories of this month yielding much in the way of excellent shows or substantial numbers of bands coming through our fair city. However, this year around, it's clear that the rock gods are on out side: November closely mirrors October in terms of a huge dose of amazing bands. Let's salute the coming dark months together with some of the month's most anticipated shows. more ›

12 Days of Christmas Shopping Left

12 Days of Christmas Shopping Left

Wow! Today's Friday the twelfth, and that leaves you all of twelve shopping days till Christmas. Which sort of sucks, since you're probably a little nervous about the state of the economy and whatnot and thinking that maybe fattening up the old savings account is a wiser move than buying a new Wii Fit. But insofar as gifts are an unavoidable fact of the holidays, we here at Seattlest thought we'd offer you some clever gift ideas for the holidays with an emphasis on both your budget and what you can do to help grease the wheels of the local economy just a bit. more ›

Stalk Of The Town

Stalk Of The Town

She may still have far too much work to do this weekend, but Kim will emerge from her cocoon for two very important shows. Tonight, it's Sera Cahoone at a secret, undisclosed location and Kim refuses to spill the beans. Continuing the vaguely country theme, she'll end the weekend Sunday night at Chop Suey with the lovely and talented Star Anna. more ›

What You'll Hear While Drunk At OktoberFest

What You'll Hear While Drunk At OktoberFest

We'll take it for granted that you will get pleasantly buzzed on nutritious, delicious microbrews at this year's Fremont OktoberFest, which might as well be called BeerFest. Someone else will have to fill you in about all the different kinds of beer this weekend (we heard there would be something like thirty breweries serving up!) at another time, though, because we would prefer to discuss the excellent local music offerings at this event. Seattle's ramping up for fall, which will come sooner rather than later; this is the perfect time to find a couple new local bands to love this winter. more ›
