EIGHT TRACKS 'N EIGHT TRACKS: Oh wait, that was the predecessor to Tapes 'N Tapes, the band playing at Neumos tonight. Everybody loves a little celebratory Midwestern indie rock on Inauguration Day, right? To prepare, or if you can't make it to the show but still don't want to Miss It, check out this Lollapalooza feature from a year or two ago where you can download the tracks from their set-list.
Can't Miss It: Tuesday
No-New-Taxes Budget Annoys Unions
Gregoire just got hit with a second lawsuit over her proposed 2009 budget, which--unlawfully, according to the unions suing the governor--reneges on certain contracted pay raises for state employees and home-care workers. Gregoire's office has responded, saying the money simply isn't there to fulfill the terms of those contracts. Seattlest is a union girl (we have a fraction of Irish blood coursing through our veins, and some stubborn Midwest farmer blood in there too), but we have to wonder: what exactly are the two angry unions hoping to accomplish? A different budget allocating non-existent money? A token acknowledgment that though what's done is done, what's done was illegal? Good luck with that.
You Can't Do This In Chicago
People like to flaunt their provincial superiority and yammer on about bad Seattle drivers especially in weather like this. (We're looking at you, fellow transplants and ex-pats.) Yeah, whatever. Screw you jerks.
Bad Seattle Drivers, Carry On
After a few leisurely days cruising highways and back roads, Seattlest is in our native Chicago. To get here, we had to traverse through southeastern Wisconsin, which on a Sunday evening was unfortunately overrun by FIBS. Being surrounded by these mouth-breathing jerks who weave across three lanes without signaling, who tailgate within 5 feet of your car, and who form a three-mile-long column in the passing lane made us long for you, Seattle. Like Audrey, we've found perspective. But don't think you've a reprieve from your bad fashion...
