Seattle Opera's Young Artists Take Two One-Acts to the Eastside

The Puget Sound area boasts a blossoming theatre and art culture with a variety of up-and-coming artists. It keeps us very busy, and this weekend is no exception, when Seattle Opera’s talented Young Artists are presenting Puccini's Gianni Schicchi and Ravel's Enchanted Child. The two one-act productions open this evening at the Theatre at Meydenbauer Center in downtown Bellevue. more ›

We Review: Seattle Opera's Young Artists @ CHAC

One of the great things about Seattle Opera's Young Artists fall show is that while it's staged and costumed, that's about all you get. The set is "suggested," the lighting minimal, the props bare essentials. So what's on display are the singers' voices and any dramatic talent -- plus, CHAC, compared to McCaw Hall, feels pretty much like your living room. more ›

PAX 2006: Geeks Gone Wild

This past weekend's edition of the Penny Arcade Expo was a mecca for gaming nerds, geeks, and designers, who all swarmed Bellevue's Meydenbauer Center for what proved to be the ultimate in niche catering. We may have started out with Pong, but we surprised a few other attendees with how much we've kept up with the gaming world despite our relative old age. Read on after the jump. more ›

We'll be quick with this post, since we've got "tournament training" to finish. This weekend is PAX, the Penny Arcade Expo. This will be the third and largest incarnation of the conference, which is part symposium, part convention, entirely geeky. Gaming nerds of all stripes descend upon Bellevue's Meydenbauer Center for a weekend of competition, education, concerts and demonstrations from the gaming world. more ›

Ghosts Can Totally Freak You Out

Ghosts Can Totally Freak You Out

Seattlest really hopes you took our advice back in March and bought tickets to Turn of the Screw, the Seattle Opera Young Artists’ Opera, because it is fabulous. We went last Friday and were very impressed. Very frightened and very impressed. (You can get a taste of the music and the staging in the video on this page.) more ›

Turn of the Screw

Turn of the Screw

Every year, the young singers in Seattle Opera’s Young Artists Program (YAP) put on their own fully staged opera. This year, the production is Benjamin Britten’s The Turn of the Screw, based on Henry James’s story by the same name. more ›
