Past jefe of the Seattle City Council Nick Licata just wrote us a note about sidewalks and the Mercer Mess. "I thought your blog readers would be interested in knowing about this coming Monday's Forum on Providing Sidewalks and Scaling Down The Mercer Project," says Nick, all helpful-like. Oh, butter wouldn't melt in his mouth! At issue is what Seattle taxpayers would rather do with $200 million. Mayor Nickels and SLU developer Vulcan would like......

All southbound lanes of Interstate 5 through downtown Seattle were closed earlier this afternoon while the State Patrol investigated an accident involving a tractor-trailer and several other vehicles at 1:54 p.m near the Mercer Street exit. We're advising people to avoid I-5 right now," said Lauren Penning, spokeswoman for the Washington Department of Transportation. You might want to avoid it for the rest of the afternoon time:HIGHEST IMPACT I-5 N - Accident, Right Center Lane......

We spotted an older Volvo sporting a "Nuke Gay Whales for Jesus" bumper sticker turning left onto Mercer Street in front of the newly remodeled Pagliacci on Lower Queen Anne this morning. We would have taken a picture but we were too busy shitting ourselves at the sight of the sticker to pull it together. Apologies all around.......

1) How did you get the picture of Segway mom? Spare us no detail! I had arrived at work (at the Pacific Northwest Ballet) at about 10am. At about 10:30, my co-workers started yelling, “Jen, Jen, you have to come see this!!!” Generally when this is called out, by the time you get there, whatever the spectacle was has since ended. This time, this was not the case. When I first saw Segway Mom she......

Saturday we went to go see The Museum Play at WET. We've been musing over what to tell you about it since then. It's a world premiere, see, and why give the story away? So few things these days have the opportunity to surprise us. If you don't care about that then by all means, read this Weekly review, or this bizarre, what-was-he-drinking? one in the P-I. [UPDATE: Here's the Stranger's AW! with a......

Back in 2002, the Crocodile had a perfect storm of a show, and not-yet-Seattlest was lucky enough to be in attendance for a bill whose lineup still gets followed to this day. The earnest indie rock of Mellowdrone, followed by the Brit-rock-with-tender-voices of both South and Elbow prompted Seattlest to spend more on merch at that show than has been spent since. As album release cycles go, they all still tend to hit Seattle on......

No, not the Lorene Cary memoir, which Seattlest found to be a moving and well-written book. We're talking about the black ice that our local traffic reporters have us convinced is a sinister and rare weather condition. When their voices go up in pitch with "reports of black ice on the roadways" we quiver at the vision of our number 15 bus skidding down Mercer Street, helpless at the mercy of this dark, invisible......

It has been three years since the Lincoln Toe Truck last beckoned to I-5 exiters at Mercer Street. The land beneath the truck succumbed to condos, but the truck lives and through the generosity of the Lincoln family has been donated to MOHAI. There it will join other Seattle icons such as the Rainier Beer 'R' and Bobo the gorilla. You can catch a pre-museum glimpse of the pink ped during its festive, multiple-tow-truck......
