The Occupy movement made its way to Olympia, a mail truck took an unexpected stop, and Mayor McGinn issued a statement on Danny Vega. All in today's headlines.

SPD Accountability Forum Provides Fireworks, A Few Answers
Last night’s police accountability forum at Seattle City Hall, while filled with angry outbursts, protests and in many ways “uncivil” discourse, actually did provide some answers to the night’s primary question - “Where Do We Go from Here?” But you had to look past a lot of fireworks to see them.
We Got Five On It. McGinn and Daley: Throw it Down for the Hawks Game.
The mayor has been riding the coattails of the Seahawks' Cinderella season to bigtime oyster booty. And since there's nothing like a little wager between friends to keep things interesting, we have a list of suggestions that Mayor McGinn and Chicago's Mayor Richard Daley can wager.
The Sound Up
So what happened this week? Well, it was beautiful, and then it wasn't. It freakishly snowed and we collectively shook our fists at the sky.
McGinn's 46 Rules
It only takes 46 rules to govern the behavior of Mayor Mike McGinn and his staff. The day before he took office, McGinn disseminated a list of 46 official rules for working in the mayor's office. Happiy, these rules for public servants are focused on public service -- #11 is Always remember we are here to serve the public, and #24 is You are an ambassador of the Mayor and the City of Seattle. There's a few we envy -- we could have really used #21 (Always try to make your co-workers look good), and #32 (Be cool. Don’t overreact & do the right thing.) in past workplaces. We've got the full list, via Publicola.
McGinn Calls Out Microsoft CEO
Mayor Mike McGinn invited Steve Ballmer to a public town hall to discuss the proposed 520 bridge plan in a letter sent to the Microsoft CEO. Microsoft took out a full-page ad in the Seattle Times calling for immediate action on the 520 bridge. We have the full text:

Google Fiber in Seattle? Where Do We Sign Up?
Seattle will actively seek to partner with Google in creation of a fiber network here. The city itself has many assets to bring to the partnership, including an extensive existing fiber network of over 500 miles connecting every school, college and major government building in the City. In Seattle, 88% of residents have home computers, 84% have Internet access and 74% already have Internet access faster than dial-up. Seattle is a high tech city, with many technology firms both large and small, and a culture of entrepreneurism and innovation
Is there a Doctor in the House?
Chris Bushnell, Senior Advisor to Seattle Mayor Mike McGinn resigned yesterday afternoon after it was revealed that he lied about having a doctoral degree from the University of Washington. He was also convicted in 1994 of felony bank fraud, although McGinn says he knew about Bushnell’s criminal record when he hired him.
Mayor-To-Be Schedules Town Halls for Input and Companionship
After running a campaign staffed entirely by volunteers, it's good to see that McGinn will be continuing to engage members of the public as he takes the reins from Nickels. McGinn has said he plans to "open source" his transition. We're happy he's getting input from the public, and frankly relieved he's doing so using the internet in addition to traditional media. But judging from a quote McGinn gave the Stranger, this might be more about the wintertime blues.
McGinn is Mayor
And here we were gearing up for a recount.
UW Poll Reveals the "McGinn Pincer"
Publicola got their hands on a UW research poll that shows leftward-leaning Mike McGinn "leading" in the mayor's race among Republican voters. McGinn's got 15 percent to Nickels' 10 percent. McGinn says the appeal is due to his "fiscal conservatism" in being against the deep-bore tunnel. That said, the poll's 600 people surveyed left Nickels in the lead, with Mallahan, Donaldson, Drago, and McGinn each divvying up about 10 percent.
Judy Clibborn, Welcome to Seattle. You're New, Right?
In the Seattle Times story about mayoral candidate Michael McGinn, "McGinn: 'He's the guy who's against the tunnel,'" state representative Judy Clibborn, chairwoman of the state House Transportation Committee, tries to pull the "done deal" card: "Since we're so far down the line and this was a decision that took so long to make, we're not going to change just because one person doesn't like it." Judy, Judy, Judy...70 percent of Seattle voters rejected a tunnel in 2007. We're not statisticians, but we think that's more than one person. (Check out tunnelfacts.com for all the reasons why people haven't warmed up to the deep-bore option.) But maybe we're looking at this the wrong way--if the state has a few billion sitting around to spend strictly because of process inertia, Governor Gregoire is obviously misleading us about all those cuts to healthcare we need to make that will kill people.
Mayoral Race Down One Candidate
Seattlest's father now knows who Dan Savage is, thanks to the Stranger editorial director's short-lived publicity stunt of a mayoral campaign. We suspect that was kind of the point. Savage isn't running anymore, thanks to the burdensome piles of paperwork associated with a real campaign, and we're grateful that whole shenanigan is done with. Piles of paperwork, we salute you.
