Is it too early to begin planning for the weekend? No, we didn't think so, either. This Sunday, go to a picnic, help save bees. Done and done.

Food Culture Navigation: Seattle On The Map
The Hartman Group, a Bellevue based firm specializing in consumer culture (especially food), produced this pretty nifty map of food culture, which mimics a subway map. Serving as a "snapshot" of the who, the techniques, the values and the ideas in the culinary landscape, the map outlines the scene visually. Let's play there "Where's Waldo" with the Seattle characters, shall we?
Piglet Report on Cochon 555
Sunday was the big Cochon 555 event, featuring five pigs, five chefs, and five winemakers. Hundreds of pounds of pork available for eating, and we think we're still digesting some of it. With most of our blood away from the brains and instead the stomach, we present this rambling "piglet" recap of the porkfest. (Check Gastrolust for the full pig report, coming by Thursday.)
For Your Consideration: This Week at SIFF
SIFF enters its second full week with a slew of great documentaries, including the final screening of fair trade coffee doc Black Gold (Tuesday, 9:30pm @ the Egyptian). The directors, Marc and Nick Francis, will be in attendance, as will Tadesse Meskela, an Ethiopian Farm Cooperative Organizer featured in the film. The SIFF screenings mark the first time the directors and subject have been together since the making of the film---and the first time Meskela has seen the film on the big screen.
