Washington vs. Misssissisipppsissppi State Preview

It’s the best thirty-six hours of the year, and for Husky fans the two most stressful will start around 2 p.m. when #4-seed UDub faces #13-seed Mississippi State down in Portland.

Seattlest's Guide to the NCAA Tourney Brackets

Welcome to the NCAA Tournament, the largest collective gambling enterprise this side of Wall Street.

Get to Know Mississippi State University

After seeing that the Huskies would be playing Mississippi State in the first round of the NCAA Tournament, our first thought was, Surprise! Who knew Mississippi was still a state? We just assumed that after the Civil War and Trent Lott, America would just kind of let the lease run out.

Huskies Will Learn Tournament Fate This Afternoon

Our Staples Center Bureau chief, Ryan, was not amused with the Huskies 75-65 loss to Arizona State on Friday night.

Huskies are Defending Their 2005 Title Right Now

Following the Huskies win on Saturday, we declared that all we wanted next was an injury free Pac 10 Tournament.

Husky Hoopsters Are Three Wins From History

Amazing but true fact: the last time the University of Washington men's basketball team finished first in their league, they did it wearing satin shorts.

The only team more dominant in the 2008 NCAA Tournament than the Washington State Cougars has been the North Carolina Tar Heels. The Tar Heels averaged 110.5 points in their two games, while the Cougars’ 66 points per game is just as impressive, considering their margin of victory (25.5 in their wins over Winthrop and Notre Dame).

The Lusty Lady is bold if nothing else; perched defiantly as a beacon of sleaze in the heart of downtown, eagerly eliciting disgust or curiosity from passing tourists. Every big city has at least one. Seattle’s two most prominent "Jerk Joints" (Déjà Vu being the sister) just happen to sit on both sides of the tourist sucking Pike Place Market. Joyfully unavoidable, the prudes have to stomach the godlessness for the brief hell they are in the vicinity.

Tomorrow morning the No. 7 seed Gonzaga Bulldogs face the No. 10 seed Davidson Wildcats, game time is 9:25am on CBS. Gonzaga has an impressive resume of non-conference opponents, losing games to Wazzu, Oklahoma, Tennessee and Memphis (all by 10 points or less), and winning against Western Kentucky, Georgia, Saint Joseph's and UConn. What do these eight teams all have in common? They're all in the NCAA Tournament.

The NCAA Tournament is underway this morning at Seattlest Sports Headquarters. We could barely sleep last night with eight games tipping off before noon today. This afternoon, the Washington State Cougars launch their campaign at the NCAA Championship at the high time of 4:20pm on CBS. In their first-round game, the No. 4 seed WSU Cougars face the No. 13 seed Winthrop Eagles.

With none of the excitement of the NCAA Tournament, and probably half of the NIT Tournament, the Huskies will open play in the first round of the inaugural CBI Tournament tonight at Hec Ed.

The brackets are set for the men's NCAA Tournament--expect productivity at work to continue on a downward spiral as the week goes on. Carve out a couple hours in your schedule in the next three days to research and fill out your brackets for your office pool. Rick Neuheisel knows what we’re talking about. Or, you could select your winners based on mascots, school colors, or blind guessing. Those always seem to work for some lucky S.O.B. in the office pool.

It seems like, all across the network, folks were up to no good. Maybe it was all the green beer from last weekend...

--Porn stache alert on the cover of NCAA 07 March Madness.

Sunday afternoon the Washington Huskies basketball team acted like they had been there before. CBS cameras captured the team politely reacting to the announcement that they had made the NCAA Tournament as a five seed.

With a win today, the UW Husky men's basketball team will advance to the NCAA Tournament's round of eight for the first time in school history. Louisville, probably the best team the Huskies have seen this year, stands in their way. Here are the three things Seattlest will be keeping tabs on during the game:

Over the weekend, the University of Washington men's basketball team advanced to the NCAA Tournament "Sweet 16" with a dominating win over Pacific. Their next game will be Thursday at 4:10 pm vs. Louisville in Albuquerque.

March Madness isn't just the NCAA men's tournament, though Seattlest knows they've trademarked the name. At the risk of a lawsuit, we apply it to the hundreds of loser-out basketball tournaments taking place all over the country, from the South Dakota state "A" championship to the public school championships in New York City. Local teams began tournament life last weekend with the Pac-10 Women's basketball tournament and the State 3A Boys and Girls Tournaments.
