The California Supreme Court upheld Proposition 8--which bans legal recognition of same-sex marriages--yesterday, sparking a wave of protests across the country. Here in Seattle, a "Day of Decision" rally was held downtown at Westlake Center. The Stranger reports State Senator Ed Murray was ambivalent about attending, saying, "so few people are willing to get off their butts to do something about marriage equality here, in the state where they themselves live." But of course he showed, along with Rep. Jamie Pedersen (photo) and a host of others. Hundreds of people crowded Westlake, and afterwards a smaller number took the chance to march up to Cal Anderson Park on Capitol Hill. The National Weather Service says we've got three months of three-dog nights to go. March highs, by the way, were about 7 degrees colder than average. (H/t to the Daily Weekly)

As was noted after we reported on one parade's cancellation due to low turn-out, it looks like everyone headed over to the MLK Jr. rally at Garfield High School instead of going downtown--Central District News has photos to prove it. Via Rainier Valley Post's new Classifieds section, we found a link to Fresh-Picked-Seattle's list of food-related ways to volunteer on the Day of Service. The B-Town Blog re-posts a thoughtful Obama-themed MLK Jr. essay written just before the election. Most blogs were focused on tomorrow's presidential inauguration, and some--including the Big Blog and Tim Burgess' City View, were reporting from the very crowded ground in D.C.

          

For today's Prop 8 march and protest, the weather cooperated nicely. Obviously, God loves a civil rights parade.
