Last week’s Yeasayer set at Neumo’s was preceded by one band, Chicago crazymakers Icy Demons. Last night’s M83 show also had only one opener, School of Seven Bells. And on top of that, the show actually started early, with M83 taking the stage at 10:20 p.m. Last night’s show wasn’t the most amazing thing ever. The French electro-shoegazers are *reeeeeally* low-key in terms of audience interaction, and the sound mix, especially at the beginning of the show, was wack, with muddy vocals and way too heavy bass. Still, the Saturdays=Youth-heavy set was solidly, sonically taut, with special propers for Morgan Kibby’s strong yet ethereal vocals on "Skin of the Night" and the extra-security wild drummer enclosure.

FUNNY OR DIE!: Canadian comedian Jon Lajoie joins forces with the certifiably crazy (and ergo super fun) Murder Dice and Righteous Trash, a.k.a. Colin Johnson, a.k.a. Nectar's booker, in creating a night of guaranteed off-the-wall hilarity and frenzied upper music to launch you into the week on the right foot. OPERATION BRIGHT PINK FLAMINGO: If you were at Myrtle Edwards Park last weekend, you may have noticed a city-approved flock of plastic flamingos hanging out on the lawns. Lest you prematurely begin the spiral into "WTF, can't we just have normal public art," let us inform you that the flamingos were only visiting to remind everyone that real Chilean flamingos are available as of tomorrow to gawk at over in the Woodland Park Zoo. There will be free mini-cupcakes, music, and stilt-walking at the Zoo to mark the opening of the summer exhibit.
