We know that Seattlest Katelyn usually handles your daily blog roundup, but she had to dart out for an emergency meeting of the Black Socialist Unicorns Justice League, leaving us in charge for today only. You won't mind if all your local news is about folk music and cute puppies, right? West Seattle blog cares about puppies as much as we do, so don't judge. CHS is calling for a CD swap, which we think is bound to turn up some old timey banjo music somewhere. Okay, that's all the puppies and folk music we could wrangle out of this. Meanwhile, MyBallard has Elvis, Slog has pie, and B-Town Blog is impressed with Obama's speaking skills. It's all connected in some dreamy way, we're sure. Speaking of dreamy, we wish the Unicorns a good meeting, and Seattlest Katelyn a speedy return.
Neighborhood News and Local Blog Roundup
Neighborhood News And Local Blog Round-Up
We had no idea Seattle Metropolitan even had blogs, but they do, and the fashion one (the first one we clicked on) by Laura Cassidy is fun. Cassidy was not enamored with Michelle Obama's white ball gown but really dug her lemongrass suit. Seattle Weekly's new music editor, Jonathan Cunningham, introduced himself over at Reverb ("I'm not a hipster. I pull no punches"). Over at Sound Politics, Stefan Sharkansky is freaking out about mail-in ballot signature verification. And the great debate about school closures continues, respectfully, at Crosscut: they've published the School Board's rebuttal of Dick Lilly's argument that the SPS shouldn't close any schools at all.
Neighborhood News and Local Blog Roundup
- We just have a few more weeks of our favorite regular mouth-watering local blog post--the "what's new at the Columbia City's Farmers Market this week" post at the Rainier Valley Post. There are only a few more markets until it closes down for winter, and this week we think we'll have to pick up some yummy winter squashes and roasted hot peppers.
- Grab a bite to eat out in Phinney Ridge tomorrow and support Phinney Neighborhood Association soup kitchens. Few things in the world taste better than eating out for a good cause.
- Blogging Georgetown has updates on proposed parking restrictions for 12th Avenue.
Neighborhood News Roundup
- We were thrilled to meet a few of our favorite local bloggers at Seattlest's Happy Hour last night. Capitol Hill Seattle, Seattle Metblogs, Science vs. Romance, and The P-I's Big Blog were all present and representing.
- Central District News warns residents to check and make sure all your car parts are still attached. One of their writers was unlucky enough to go to her car one morning and find her fuel pump and filter missing.
- The Rainier Valley Post brings its weekly drool-worthy list of goods at today's neighborhood farmer's market. The list of greens alone is worth the bus ride south.
Kitten Stealing is a New Low
While trolling around some of Seattle's great local blogs for breaking news, we saw this photo that broke our heart:
50 Bucks Says MyZip Can Beat Up Your Zip
The Craigslist ad reads:
Do you want to earn extra cash blogging about your community? MyZip.net is building the first nationwide network of neighborhood blogs. We will pay you $50 per month for writing about your neighborhood on your own ZIP code site (example http://www.98122.net).We're in favor of this because neighborhood microblogs support our top-secret strategy of using RSS feeds and Google alerts to bring you news as if it happened to us.
Where's Tonight's Target?
Hey--Seattlest Seth here. As you know, I could talk about sports for hours (Never, ever, sit next to me at a dinner party). And since I don't want Seattlest getting too sports-heavy, I'm moving Tonight's Target over to a new, sports-only blog I started yesterday while listening to the Mariners game on my porch.
Art Fight!
We've been following brand-spankin'-new art blog That Ain't Art, a collaboration between Kirsten Anderson and Celeste Fuechsel of Roq La Rue, Damion Hayes of BLVD, and Larry Reid of the Fantagraphics store. With that lineup, it's no surprise that That Ain't Art's focuses on lowbrow and pop surrealism -- "the alternative art scene in the Northwest," as their about section says. In their first couple of weeks, they've talked up artists and exhibitions, noted with...
Where the Hotties At?
Why go to the clubs when there are many hotties working at local business establishments? We've culled Craig's List, the Stranger I Saw U, and local blogs to determine where you, the reader, can find hotties without paying a cover.
Blog Wars!
Proving once and for all that there is literally no issue too inconsequential for human beings to bicker about, the blog I Heart Seattle ripped the Slog a new asshole for, among other things, "lacking clarity and standards," having too much "celebrity gossip," and "not linking to other local blogs."
Tonight Only! Hear the Dulcet Tones of Seattlest Seth
We guarantee there's one person in town who won't be listening to Seattlest Seth on the radio tonight: Seattlest Seth. We have it on good authority that he hates his own voice.
The Last Cupping
Just a few weeks ago, we attended a coffee-tasting ritual (called a "cupping") at the Victrola, and crazed roasting genius Tony was there, espousing his bean religion with such fervor that we left inspired ourselves, sinuses filled with nutty aroma and hearts jittery as a tambourine.
Seattlest Interview: Seablogs Creator Michael Montoure
Seattle resident Michael Montoure pursues a few of the more solitary activities that mankind has been able to dream up during our time on Earth: writing, web development. Maybe he started the blog community site Seablogs to counter that. We checked in with him recently in an attempt to figure out just what motivates a man to put in the hours necessary to create a directory this extensive.
