Campfire OK isn't just a bunch of pretty faces, they've got a unique blend of vocal, banjo, guitar, piano and percussion that brings people in and gets them dancing. Mychal Cohen may be the face of the band, but the incredible talent of each member is what makes this group great. Morgen takes us to their performance at Capitol Hill Block Party earlier this year.

Countdown in Photos #22: The Local Strangers
Morgen has had the unbelievable opportunity to get to know many talented local musicians. She counts The Local Strangers amongst some of her closest friends and over the past year she's been able to watch their success grow exponentially. Their most recent show at Columbia City Theatre seemed to be their best yet and at this performance Morgen captured some of her favorite moments of this fantastic group.
City Arts Fest Local Spotlight: Allen Stone
Allen Stone may not be a household name yet but just give it a little time. This Seattle R&B performer is heading out on tour soon but not before he headlines City Arts Festival show and performs on Conan O'Brien.
Seattlest Loft Session: Art Walk Approacheth
There are three artists lined up to perform at this Thursday's Loft Session and we couldn't be more stoked to show them off. There is no set order at this time as we're trying to keep this one as simple and easy-going as possible. Matt Kinder, Tony Kevin Jr and BC Campbell will be serenading you in a picturesque view of Pioneer Square. Don't miss out on this one, you'll regret it for sure.
Will Call: Concerts on Sale This Week
The tickets going on sale this week are scant in number but not in awesomeness! A second Sting show has been added, Clap Your Hands Say Yeah is visiting and there's a Global Dance Party headed to the Moore Theatre. Check it out, you'll be sorry if you miss your opportunity to get in while the gettin's good.
Tweeter of the Week: @TilthProducers
The mission of the Tilth Producers of Washington is simple: to "promote ecologically sound, economically viable and socially equitable farming practices that improve the health of our communities and natural environment." Which is something we can totally all get behind. And, it turns out, something that makes for fascinating following.
Bryan John Appleby's Fire on the Vine: Where've You Been All My Life?
It's rare to find a true storyteller amongst musicians. Granted, most songwriters are able to use words to their advantage in creating a solid combination of music and lyrics, and are able to weave them together in a way at which the rest of us jealously marvel.
Capitol Hill Block Party: Let the Madness Begin
The Capitol Hill Block Party can be kind of intimidating. But no worries--Seattlest's dynamic music duo, Lily and Morgen, are ready to walk you through it.
Graham Kerr Saunters into Met Market This Week
Graham Kerr, award winning chef and author of more than two dozen cookbooks, will be visiting Seattle to talk about his latest book, ,Growing at the Speed of Life, which outlines the first year of his gardening adventure.
Sonic Boom: Cap Hill Music Mainstay Shutting Down
We were just informed of some terrible news: the Capitol Hill location of Sonic Boom Records is closing down.
Capitol Hill Block Party 2011: Locals Get A Lot of Love
This year's Capitol Hill Block Party has a big ol' heaping helping of local music yet again and we want to let you in on the ones that we're excited to see there. What's really great about CHBP is the majority of bands we see there are local. Yeah, they bring in a few big names for the draw, but you're there to see local bands have their time to shine.
Hot Bodies Rocks the Showbox Tonight and Gives Seattlest the Lowdown
You may or may not have heard of Hot Bodies in Motion (HBIM), but you have to admit it's a killer name--even if you have no idea who they are. Here at Seattlest, we've come to know and love this band for one very good reason: they don't play folk/Americana/singer-songwriter style tunes. In fact, that might be the very reason you haven't heard about them.
Satori Group's Fabulous Prizes: Revisionist Lives
The Satori Loft is a hell of a space. It isn't gilded with gold leaf or vintage moulding; it feels worked-in, like a place where hands have gotten dirty. It's a 'Lab,' the home of the burgeoning Satori Group, a place for "the development of new work, through ensemble generation and collaboration with guest artists and playwrights." True to their focus, they bring to Seattle the debut of Fabulous Prizes, by Seattle playwright Neil Ferron. And what better venue for the play to attain the light of day, having received the treatment of Satori's First Look Series?
Doe Bay Fest: On Sale Tomorrow & Probably Selling Out Tomorrow
Folks, we've talked about Doe Bay Music Fest as much as possible over the last year. Mostly because we can hardly wait for it to happen, but also because it's an incredible experience and we want to share it with you. Tomorrow is the big day. Tickets for the fest go on sale and from what we've heard, they're probably not going to last much longer than the day. Last year, without nearly as much hype, it sold out within about a week. It's a bit more expensive to head out to Orcas Island, and you will probably have to deal with some annoying ferry traffic, but it's definitely worth it.
On the Road: Steel Tigers of Death
Spring and summer time is that magical few months when all our local bands go out on tour (and bands from other places grace us with their presence as well). Whether it be festivals, huge venues or tiny little crapholes, they are out there toiling away to get their music out to the masses. Admittedly, we miss them. We're used to having them around to play shows once or twice a month and now they've been callously ripped from our hands and thrust out into the world. Well, Seattlest Music is attempting to bring a little bit of them back to Seattle as they tour by being text message pals. They'll be sending photos and quotes all along the way for us to share. This is gonna be fun!
Local Advertiser Spotlight: Ballard Driving Academy
A hearty Seattlest thanks to the Ballard Driving Academy. This is exactly the kind local advertiser--a business that screams Seattle, but really politely, doesn't want to draw too much attention to itself--we're looking for. Remember, with all that's going on in Ballard these days, the safest place is in your car. Why not let the Ballard Driving Academy show you how to drive it, while you're in there?
Attention Local Advertisers--We Our Ad Space Can Be Bought
We'll keep this short, for our readers' benefit--Seattlest.com is now accepting local advertising, which makes great sense because our readers are local, too. In a Seattlest survey, 87 percent of our readers said they live in Seattle, while 97 percent lived in Washington State. (Thank you, Seattle! And West Seattle! And the Eastside!)
That Nagging Citrus Question
Much as we hate to admit it, we’ve lately been taking a little break from the farmer’s markets. You see, it’s the beginning of February, and though the weather has started to point towards spring, at the farmer’s market, it’s still October of last year: cabbage, parsnips, squash and potatoes, and that’s about it. The one bright spot in all of this culinary gloom is the fabulous citrus available this time of year, but you won’t find that at the farmer’s market.
Killing Time with Natalie Portman
Okay. Maybe that headline is a bit misleading. This is not actually a post about spending time with Natalie Portman, the actress. It is actually about the local band Natalie Portman's Shaved Head. Maybe we just got stuck in that fantasy world of ours in which we happen across a fellow bike rider with a broken chain and, when we stop to help, it turns out to be Natalie Portman who is so thankful that she rides home with us and spends the rest of her time in Seattle exploring her sexuality with us. Maybe we used a post about the local band Natalie Portman's Shaved Head to get stuck in that daydream. Just maybe.
Can't Miss It: Weekend Edition, May 16-18
HUGE AMOUNTS OF CHEESE: The Cheese Festival is upon us! This is one of our top three favorite events of the year (#2: our birthday, #3: Christmas). Several reasons: a city block full of cheese, friendly vendors, wholesale prices on bottles in the wine garden (don't buy the red wine that says "bacon" three times in its description, we made that mistake last year), and (it bears repeating) a city block full of cheese.

Product Runway Fashionistas Stomp Towards Victory
On Friday evening, Seattlest made our way down to the fashion event of the season: Product Runway at the South Lake Union Naval Reserve. Nineteen teams competed to show the best couture creation made of interior design elements.
Can't Miss It: Weekend Edition
CHARITABLE INDULGENCES: If you're not too hungover from tonight's couture cocktails with Jack Mackenroth at Product Runway, something beautiful involving imported beer and fine Scotch is happening in Fremont both tonight and tomorrow: the HopScotch Spring Beer and Scotch Festival. The festival's a benefit for NW Folklife, so think of your purchase of extra tequila tastings as an act of springtime charity.
