Since Capitol Hill denizens stepped up to the plate and donated the most during the 2008 summer membership drive, KEXP is spending Friday hanging out in the neighborhood. John Richards, Cheryl Waters, and Kevin Cole will all broadcast their shows from Caffe Vita--with live performances aplenty, including The Moondoggies, Say Hi, Mates of State, and Black Kids--while other djs will be taking over the sound systems at Linda's, Grey Gallery, the Cha Cha, Havana, Moe Bar, and the Wild Rose. Plus, there's extra discounts and perks for KEXP members at Capitol Hill establishments. Full details here.

Right on the heels of Linda's 15th birthday earlier this week is "Awesome"'s 5th birthday celebration, tonight at the Tractor. Yes, it was but five years ago this month that the talented comedy-art-pop septet played their first show at the Rendezvous' Jewelbox Theatre. That was 2004, a time of great strife and war; now it's 2009, and there's still great strife and war, but also hoverboards and robots and aliens to truth-melt your face off. It's called progress, people. So tonight is the night and the Tractor is the place to catch one of our most favorite local bands, along with openers We are Golden and Central Services. It's only $10 for the 9:30 p.m. 21+ show.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY, DEAR LINDA'S: Capitol Hill mainstay and Linda Derschang's namesake bar celebrates its 15th birthday tonight, starting at 4 p.m. The first 100 people to show up get a free commemorative t-shirt, but for the rest of us, it's $2.99 cheeseburgers and 1994 beer prices all night. That's when beer was like, what, a nickel? Music care of DJ Damaged Goods.
