HEAD EXPLODING FUN: Riki-Oh: The Story of Ricky is a 1991 flick from Hong Kong directed by Lam Ngai Kai, based on the Japanese comic book Riki-Oh. The film is best known for its brutal and borderline absurd violence. If Monday doesn't warrant watching some bare handed skull crushing, we don't know what does.

YOU AND EMILIANA: Supercute Italian-Icelandic chanteuse Emiliana Torrini hits the Croc tonight, still touring on her 2008 album Me and Armini. Emiliana ain't no Bjork; her music is a mélange of genres: a little trip-hop here, a little folk there, with a smattering of ska, psych-rock, and bossa nova for good measure. Here's proof of her musical diversity: Torrini both sang "Gollum's Song" over the credits of LoTR: The Two Towers and wrote "Slow" for Kylie Minogue. Now that's what we call delightfully all over the place.

GRINDHOUSE: The Sunset's monthly night of chopsocky fun Kung Fu Grindhouse puts out another installment of more delicious b-movie trash. Tonight's triple-header kicks off with Charles Bronson as a bareknuckles boxer in Hard Times, followed by monster movie From Beyond at 8:30, and closing the night with Jackie Chan in Dragons Forever.
This Chinese New Year Brought to You By...
Bank of America, McDonalds and Starbucks? Seattlest is reeling a little from the notion of an overtly corporate party to celebrate the start of the year of the dog at Union station on Saturday, February 4th.
A Long Weekend of Movies
When the film industry complains about the box office slump, they aren't talking about the growing public interest in indie films or documentaries; what they're really saying is, "Why didn't you all rush out to see Herbie: Fully Loaded last weekend?" The answer to that question is obvious, basically boiling down to "Because we don't pay $9 to watch crap---especially crap that has been digitally altered to downsize the protagonist's erstwhile monstrous mammaries."
Let's Go Out to the Lobby
At long last, Central Cinema is now open. Though they've hosted some pre-grand opening events last month, Wednesday was their official opening night. And while Seattlest was not in attendance, we are certainly planning on going there sometime soon, especially after taking a gander at their menu. Mmmm...we're thinking that popcorn and roasted asparagus and a salmon burger and the quattro formaggi or sienna or pescara pizza, followed by some crème brulee and a nice nip of tawny port sounds delightful.
A Hodgepodge of Filmery
You've got all kinds of options for films this week rather than going to see The Amityville Horror---and please people, for the love of God, do not pay to see movies like that...it only encourages Hollywood to trot out yet another completely unnecessary horror flick remake.
