If you were here right now, you'd see us looking around suspiciously like we don't quite trust we're awake because we just read Knute Berger's latest deep thought over at Crosscut and we...agree with him. While promoting green consumption might be politically more palatable than getting people to change their habits and expectations, promoting consumption still offers an answer that doesn't solve the bigger problem. Global warming's hawks have to be honest with us: Fighting the......

Over at new Crosscut.com, Knute Berger reports that the Seattle School District will send four local high schoolers to the White Privilege Conference in Colorado Springs. Hoorah! We can think of no better place than Colorado Springs to teach all about the wonders of white privilege--proximity to ski resorts, an overwhelmingly melanin-free population, an outsized number of John Denver fans to convey the magic that is singing-songwriting...wait, what's that?the goal of the gathering is to......

-This item has musical accompaniment, but it's going to have to be user supplied. Hum "Taps" while you read. Today's issue of the Seattle Weekly will be the last from the intrepid Knute Berger, Chuck Taylor, George Howland, Geov Parish team. -We haven't listened to it yet, but apparently this week's Podcasting Liberally contains a discussion between Geov Parrish and Sandeep Kaushik on the theme of an alt-weekly writer's life after alt-weeklies. -We probably won't......

Blogging duties can really get on top of traditional reporter and columnist types. Their days are already packed with making phone calls, dicking around on the internet, occasionally driving somewhere, occasionally tapping out a story; how the hell are they supposed to find time to write on the internet on top of all that? Everyone just wants to talk on the internet anyway - No one's listening on the web. The public demands you start......

Here's the set-up: Alan Durning of the Sightline Institute, the Real Change Bus Chick, and the Petersons over on the Eastside have riled up the Seattle Weekly's Knute Berger. According to Berger (and if you're used to any semblance of logical consistency, grab a handrail and hold on), the problem with not having a car, or using one less, is that you become a moocher. Yes, mooching, because while the Durnings don't have their own......

King County Councilman Larry Gossett is re-submitting his proposal to the City Council this month to spend $600,000 on changing the county's logo from a crown to the likeness of Dr. Martin Luther King. In a recent email to our local neighborhood council (Jackson Place), Gossett indicated that this would "finally give respect and visibility to the fact that our County's namesake is Dr. King." This made Seattlest think "huhn", scratch our chin, and ponder......

Seattle Weekly Editor-in-Chief Knute Berger white unflighted recently, moving from Kirkland back to Seattle. But, guess what? He didn't cotton to it. Why? Because, as his Pulitzer-worthy investigation in last week's Weekly reveals, Seattle ain't what it used to be. Among his shocking discoveries, sure to surprise Seattle Weekly readers: "gentrification is scrambling the old neighborhoods" "the old square-head Ballard is gone" "U Village is now a yuppie fun zone" "There's some new freeway running......

Last week we guessed that this was going to be a big week for papal comment in the weeklies, and we're glad to see we weren't wrong. We were hoping for some fresh perspectives, or maybe some Seattle angle to the commentary, but maybe that was expecting a lot. Knute Berger in "Mossback" was the first to weigh in on the Catholic boss and the whole "the Vatican isn't a Democracy so why don't we......
