Strong defense and Justin Dentmon stepping up late in the second half gave the Huskies their fourth straight win against the Bruins in Hec-Ed, and Seattlest its second great sports moment of 2008.
Huskies Upset UCLA
Franklin High Finally Throws Us a Bone
After routinely destroying our alma mater, unleashing the obscenity that is Kenny G, and sending their best-ever athlete to rival Arizona, Franklin High is finally doing something for us. Franklin's Venoy Overton, ranked the 26th-best point guard among the nation's high school seniors, rescinded his commitment to USC today and will be a Husky.
The Huskies Got Beat By Wazzu
Yesterday we wrote that the Huskies would beat #10 Wazzu, and we were wrong. Don't be that surprised, it happens a lot.
Last March and Last Night, Appleby Came Through
We have had our issues with Ryan Appleby this season. The curly haired guard can seemingly do one thing on the court, hit three pointers. This season he has been struggling to do that, making him essentially useless.
Tonight's The Dawgs' Best Chance at a Big Win
So. The Huskies. The team that's our city's best chance at a 2007 championship trophy, and they can't even beat the Cougs. Historical fact: No team has ever lost to Washington State University and gone on to win the championship of anything.
Chicago. Oh, We've Met
The Seahawks and Bears have never met in the playoffs, however, Seattle teams have danced with the Windy City's finest in the postseason.
'Zona Flogs Dawgs, Schedule Change Announced
Coach Romar changed his lineup tonight (bringing Quincy Pondexter and Justin Dentmon off the bench), and tightened his rotation (eliminating minutes for Hans Gasser, Artem Wallace and Brandon Burmeister). Still, a third straight loss for the Dawgs, 96-87 to Arizona.
SI's Cover Goes to the Huskies
Sports Illustrated is featuring the Huskies on the cover of their College Basketball preview-- well one of the five regional covers. The west coast edition features John Brockman and…really, wow, Ryan Appleby. Huh. Justin Dentmon must have had class or something.
Happy Happy, Roy Joy
Before the Huskies' 2nd round matchup vs. Illinois, we professed fear at how the Dawgs' freshman point guard, Justin Dentmon, would fare against All-Big 10 senior guard Dee Brown. Dentmon was incredible. He didn't turn the ball over once, and his late four-point-play was the catalyst for the Husky comeback.
Huskies Advance to 2nd Round
Brandon Roy carried the Huskies to yet another win last night. His 28 points led the Dawgs over Utah State in the first round of the tournament, and his double jab step, rise and shoot three late in the game was the nail in the Aggies' coffin.
Number 2 in Your Program. Number 975-09-876 In Your Heart
When the Huskies and Aggies (again, not the Texans who think that they own numbers, but the Utah State variety) tip-off their first round NCAA tournament game later tonight, eleven years will separate the ages of the two point guards: Washington's Justin Dentmon, 18, and Utah State's David Pak, 29.
Roy Wins Poy
Huskies forward Brandon Roy became only the second Husky (and more importantly, the first Garfield Bulldog) to win Pac-10 Player of the Year honors, beating out Cal-Berkeley forward Leon Powe.
Hirsute Dork's 43 Points Aren't Enough
The Huskies beat #6 Gonzaga last night, ending a seven-game losing streak to the Zags and proving that, despite losing three top scorers from last year, this year's Husky team is worthy of national attention.
