Mariners Open Season, Can't Get Much Worse

Erik Bedard and Adrian Beltre will probably be traded by July 31. Hopefully, Jarrod Washburn will go as well. They don’t even have to trade him; they can just leave him behind the counter at a Panda Express, or pretend to throw a tennis ball and drive off when he tries to find it.

Mariners' closer J.J. Putz was traded yesterday to the New York Mets in a three-team, twelve-player arrangement which brings seven scrubby players to Seattle in return. Putz was a former All-Star with the M's and professed to be shocked at the move. But we aren't at all surprised. Meanwhile, the New York media begins to salivate at the headline-writing options.

Our beloved boys of summer (?) return to the friendly confines of RoBro after a 3-3 road trip to Boston and Toronto, cementing them firmly in last place in the AL West—16.5 games behind the Angels.
