From sour lemons to robots to Fantagraphics and Nepal—I’m pretty excited about lit events in Seattle this week. They may range from the absurd to the autobiographical, but that’s what makes this week so special. Happy week in lit to you all!
This Week in Lit: Happy Faces, Robot Races and Frank.
Georgetown Still Doesn't Suck, and Woodring is There to Prove It
Georgetown maintains its hipster art street cred and is one of the more genuine destination neighborhoods in Seattle. For ample proof, check out the Georgetown Carnival on Saturday, featuring Power Tool Races, bike jousting, visual and performance art and a musical line-up that culminates with a reunion of Seattle proto-grunge band Feast.
Bears Declare Final Victory Over Crows at Woodland Park Zoo
The eternal feud between evolutionary rivals bears and crows finally came to a dramatic conclusion recently at the Woodland Park Zoo, as the persecuted bears claimed a decisive victory over their winged foe, the goddamned crows. Jim Woodring was on the scene and documented the victory on his blog (click through the drawing below for a larger more readable version):

Get Out
COMICS: Local cartoonist salon Friends of the Nib, founded by Jim Woodring, will create a work of narrative sequential art right before your eyes. You may purchase a copy of said art at the end of the evening.
Scooter-themed Pin-Up Art Show at Cafe Racer
Seattle cartoonist confederation "Friends of the Nib" will host a benefit art show at Cafe Racer Saturday night (6-8pm), and according to an email we received from one Max Woodring, "100% of all proceeds from art sales will go to Jason Gooder, who was recently injured in a fall."
Dead Sharpie?
Apropos of nothing, Snohomish artist Jason Miles posted the above drawing, entitled "Dead Sharpie", on his blog, and we think its bitchin' enough to warrant sharing with you here in this context. You can also see more work by Miles and other local artists including Jim Woodring at the Friends of the Nib show, currently on exhibit through June 15 at Cafe Racer, 5828 Roosevelt Way NE Seattle, Washington (206) 523-5282, two doors south of The Trading Musician.
Jim Woodring on KUOW
Seattle's greatest living cartoonist/visionary/genius Jim Woodring will be interviewed on KUOW's "The Beat" this afternoon at 2PM, also available for your listening pleasure via the "information superhighway", to talk about his new book, Seeing Things, which includes work seen in slideshow/music performance collaborations with that other Seattle genius, jazz guitar great Bill Frisell.
