We were bummed we didn't make it down to Portland for Jim Blanchard's show at the Night Gallery (we were stuck at the Ballard Sunset Bowl where we overheard a guy in the bathroom piss AND puke at the same time, which can't be normal. Who pukes standing, while pissing?), but lucky for us the show is now on the gallery's site. There are some classics here - including the Afrouni-Teat, a version of which we already own - plus some new surprises like the image above, evidently titled Le Spider, 2006-2007 acrylic on stretched canvas, 20 x 20 inches.

Time and gas revenue permitting, a trip north will be required this weekend for the new Jim Blanchard solo show, "Class of '06," opening at the Hand To Mouth Gallery in downtown Bellingham Friday, February 3 at 7pm. The show will feature the artist's latest warped and slick illustration by way of 30 portraits of modern high school kids rendered in india ink and acrylic, mounted in 5 X 7 frames and priced under $100 each. If you can't make it to the show, the artist has tons of criminally under-priced and unforgettably weird art available online.
