The Mariners announced in a letter to fans yesterday that Mike Hargrove will be back as manager. The man has now led his charges to six consecutive losing seasons--two here, four in Baltimore. Over at USS Mariner, the masses are in revolt--if "revolt" can be defined as "leaving angry comments on a blog."

A few hours ago we were very happy with Mariners GM Bill Bavasi. He ridded the team of one of its most sour spots, and brought up a kid who, despite wicked injury troubles, we can't help but want to love.

During the telecast of the Mariners' 6-2 win over Oakland last night, the TV cameras captured an activity we haven't seen much of in the Mariner dugout recently--laughter.

After M's centerfielder Jeremy Reed hurt his hand running into a wall last week, trainers x-rayed him and found a wrist fracture. He was to miss 6-8 weeks. Turns out that fracture is at least four years old, isn't serious, and all Reed really has is a sore hand. He should be ready for Opening Day.

That is too restrictive. Innocent people, such as unwitting neighbors of terrorists, may, without knowing it, have valuable counterterrorist information.

There isn’t a team Seattlest enjoys watching the Mariners beat more than the Oakland A's. Geographically, the A's are the Mariners' closest rival. Historically, one or both of the teams have been contenders. 2005 is an exception. Let's just say time hasn't been kind to these franchises.

The Mariners begin interleague play tomorrow, in Florida against the Marlins. Because the designated hitter is not permitted in these games, manager Mike Hargrove faces a dilemma--which of his nine regular hitters to sit.
