Here at Seattlest, we care about our readers. But more than our readers, we care about the city's most influential people, like politicians and journalists and public figures that are also hot messes. In fact, we care about them so much that we've come up with a list of Halloween costume suggestions for them that we think the masses would really enjoy. Also, because it is Friday afternoon, we decided to write a nice, fluffy softball article of no real relevance.
Dan Savage as a Nun, and Other Halloween Suggestions for Seattle's A-List
Extra, Extra: Godden and Gregoire = The Golden Girls?
In today's headlines: One woman's murder turns into an inter-state crime spree. Meanwhile, a developer is fast at work on a crime against development, as a giant hotel is planned at the foot of the Space Needle. And, weirdly, Governor Gregoire has endorsed Jean Godden?
City Council Passes Paid Sick Leave Measure, Mostly Everyone Stoked
The City now mandates that employers give their workers paid sick leave! Most seem pretty excited, but a few are still skeptical. Is mandatory sick leave a boon for Seattle's workforce and necessary to our public health, or another burden on business owners already strained by a damaged economy?
Seattlest Voter's Guide: City Council Position 1
Primary elections are already around the corner. We won't be endorsing any candidates, but we can tell you a little about them and let you make your own decisions. Today, we're focusing on Position 1. Who's your pick?
Wednesday Morning Headlines
Public officials behaving badly and some sad news for Seattle sports fans - and no, it's not about Hasselbeck leaving the Seahawks. Although that's sad too. Happy Wednesday.
Pike Place Farmers Welcome Spring with Daffodil Day
Saturday marks the official start of spring. Pike Place farmers are celebrating early by hosting Daffodil Day on Friday, March 19th. Community members will spread spring cheer by handing out an estimated 12,000 free daffodils to area workers, shoppers and residents. Rain or shine these volunteers will be at eight locations across downtown Seattle. The festivities will take place from 11:30 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. (or until all flowers are given). The 13th Annual Daffodil Day will feature City Council members Jean Godden and Mike O’Brien at its 4th & Cherry distribution site. Students from Pike Market Child Care and Preschool will also lend a hand at the 4th & Pine location. Be sure to stop by for your free daffodil and say hello to spring!

NOAA! Don't Goaa!
NOAA has announced that they're hauling anchor away from Lake Union, and relocating their center-Pacific operations to Newport, Oregon. Seattle City Council's Jean Godden has already fired off a response, noting that Seattle has the UW (Newport doesn't), fresh water (Newport 0), and the Duwamish River (Newport FAIL). Godden says Seattle still looks to her like the best choice for NOAA, but that "Clearly the selection committee felt differently, perhaps influenced by millions of dollars in state subsidies offered by the Oregon legislature." ZING!

Seattlest’s City Council Endorsements
When we sat down to do our endorsements we reached a disturbing conclusion. We cannot, in good conscience, vote for anyone.
City Council Primary Preview: Position 1
Jean Godden used to write a column where she would point out humorous license plates, as well as the little things that make living in Seattle the silliest. Now she is on the city council and running for re-election. Her main opponent is weightlifting coach Joe Szwaja, who spent some time on the Madison City Council.
Local Dems Endorse Our Sweet Youth
We’re only going to be in our twenties for the next three weeks, so lately we’ve been trying to feel younger--and there is no better place to accomplish this than at a local district Democrat meeting. Once again we were one of the youngest people in the room. We love you sweet, sweet democracy.
Doins a Transpiring at City Hall
Lost in the excitement over the Seattle City Council's big week was the Seahawks first trip to the Super Bowl. However, it's not like you can blame Seattleites for ignoring this triumph of footballity, not only have the candidates for Jim Compton's vacated seat been whittled down from twelve to six, but the race for council president took a surprising turn yesterday when Richard Conlin withdrew his name and Nick Licata was declared the winner.
Compton Stepping Down
The man who brought the Space Needle to Seattle is resigning his position as City Councilman. Jim Compton, who was elected to the City Council in 1999 because he used to be on the TV, is stepping down to teach in Egypt and Romania. Or maybe after a heartwarming montage, it will be his students who teach him---how to love again.
I’ll Take The Mayoral Candidate to Block
Celebrities, they are good looking, rich, and if you believe what you read in US Weekly, are just like us (they check their mail). More and more, however, celebrities are also making our laws. Why vote for Stuffed Shirt McPolicy when you can vote for karate-chopping superstar Arnold Schwarzenegger? People like voting for faces they recognize; our own city council has former Seattle Times columnist Jean Godden and former TV reporter Jim Compton.
