Well, folks, Pride weekend has officially come and gone, and every last ounce of rainbow has been squeezed out of our veins. It was a hot weekend to be outside on hard, hot pavement drinking beer and scoping the scene, but we perservered so that we could have a tale to tell you people.

First of all, a couple of logistics. Just a reminder, the only events on Capitol Hill are at the clubs. There are no Pride shuttles, as there have been for certain events in past years. However, the number eight bus (down Denny, from Capitol Hill to Seattle Center) will be running more frequently all weekend.

THAT'S SO DOPE: Dope Emporium is a free festival of all things hiphop: DJs, MCs, spoken word artists, graffiti artists, and more. It's going down as part of Artopia, an arts extravaganza in the extremely dope neighborhood of Georgetown, so hop on a bus and experience some of the best Seattle hiphop has to offer. Our picks: Candidt, Orbitron, B-Girl Bench, Waves of the Mind and Dim Mak. Hot!

When Seattlest was just a wee lesbian growing up in a small southern town, we did what we reckon other wee small-town lesbians did: we listened to a lot of k.d. lang and the Indigo Girls. We went on long road trips across the whole state with the windows down, our other closeted friends with us, singing "Galileo" at the top of our lungs. Ah, those good ol' days of closeted small-town life.

We've been looking forward to this day for weeks. Mainly because ZooTunes is one of our very favorite concert series. Who doesn't love an excuse to sit out on the grass at the zoo, grab a plastic cup of some local beer, a picnic dinner, and watch world class singer/songwriters have at it?

Meeting Jesca Hoop before a recent opening-slot gig at the Showbox, we weren't entirely sure what to make of her. With her debut LP not out for two months and only a few songs available streaming on the net, we labored--mistakenly--under the impression that this waifish Jack Mormon who'd spent several years homesteading was really just another singer-songwriter strumming an acoustic guitar.

First things first: the Tegan and Sara show at the Triple Door tonight is sold out, but we did see a lot of SRO happening last night, so you might take your chances. Or simply show up at the Queen Anne Easy Street Records at 4pm today for their in-store appearance. Either way, they come highly recommended by us, and you might as well make plans to see them at the Showbox on December 3.

Oh yes, Seattlest fans, it's that time of year again. When, after weeks of teasing, the sun finally decides to stick around. When all able-bodied gay men head to Madison Beach in their tight little shorts with their cute little dogs, and all the able-bodied lesbians head to some outdoor location with their picnic blankets and their mullets for an Indigo Girls concert.

WAMU Zoo Tunes recently announced their upcoming concert lineup. Personally, we say Meh -- but we're not every day listeners of The Mountain, so to be honest, we don't even recognize half the names on this list. Herbie Hancock would probably be great. The guy's a jazz legend after all.

Maybe it's because we're from the East Coast, but we're firm believers that there's some sort of force field around the West Coast, keeping all the singer/songwriters from becoming world famous and conquering the planet in the same way that eastern folksingers like Dar Williams and the Indigo Girls have.

Those of you with plans to hijack the Tractor Tavern and remove its nuclear warheads or use it as a control center in your effort to take control of a top-secret government outer space super-weapon on Saturday May 27, think again. Your plans may be foiled by, no not the cook, but a member of the band.
