Whenever we're feeling a touch old or outdated (read: no longer drinking giant Jack-in-the-Box soda cups half full of liquor on our way to the game), we remind ourselves that Husky Stadium itself is 90 years old. NINETY YEARS, of awesome gridiron action. Most everyone has agreed our beloved Montlake Monster is in need of a face-lift, but it's much harder to agree on funding and cost. The $250 million price tag is a little god-Don-James expensive.
Husky Stadium: Maintenance Plastic Surgery
An Exasperating/Enlightening Look at College Football
I mentioned in a recent CMI post my irritation at missing the September debut of Scoreboard, Baby, and author Ken Armstrong got in touch and sent along a copy to rectify this glaring hole in my Dawgs knowledge.
Sarah J. Reports: Washington's Wonder Week
Twas the sportiest of sports days in Southern California last week. For a traveling Seattlite, 'twas also the BAD ASSIEST of weeks! One event after another, threaded together with In-N-Out and sore throats, was knocked out of the park and into the sweet land of victory.
520 Wants to Screw You Tomorrow
Sorry for the crassness, but it's too true. The Washington Husky Pigskin men are set to take on the UCLA Bruins (booooooo!) tomorrow evening at 5 p.m. in an uncommon midweek, weeknight matchup. That's nationally televised on ESPN. That Jake Locker was just cleared to play in. As his last home game ever. Fully 60,000 people are expected to show up and bark for Sark, throwing a wrench in the already commute-clustery area of Montlake.
Bowwwww dowwwwwn, to Washington!
Yesterday marked an exciting day for Washington football fans - the return of players to Husky Stadium for their first practice of the season. Coach Steve Sarkisian is back to helm his second season, and according to the Dawg Blawg the practice went off swimmingly. Did you know there's a coachsark.com? The internets are so vast.
LSU's Only Weakness
Everyone has a weakness (even Chuck Norris). LSU is no different. Quarterback is the one and only position where the Huskies have an edge.
UW Football History Provides Hope for Upset of LSU
Let's talk about what can happen when a national title contender (like LSU) plays an early season game 2,000 miles from home in a loud, hostile stadium against an unranked power conference team (like Washington). One thing that can happen is that the national title contender will get stomped. Ask the 1983 Washington Huskies.
Watch Hotties Chase Balls
The Lingerie Football League's Seattle Mist--twelve nubile, busty, hard-bodied, long-legged...sorry, what were we talking about? Oh, yeah, the Mist are holding a public practice Wednesday from noon to 2 p.m. at Starfire Sports Complex in Tukwila. If you are more into dudes, the UW football team has an open practice Wednesday at 4 p.m. at Husky Stadium. You'll have to use a little more imagination, though, as the Dawgs won't be in their skivvies. Also, high school soccer practice schedules can be found here.
March News Comes in Like a 6,846 Bear
A former Husky linebacker is among the football players missing off Florida's Gulf Coast after a weekend fishing trip. Someone was shining lasers at planes at SeaTac last night, and the pilots are all, "Gah! Get that thing outta my eye!" There's no quick fix for the economy, but there's a free fix for your pet. Today is the last day to get your dog or cat spayed for free at Seattle Animal Shelter and it also happens to be the day that Jason the Bachelor hands out the final rose. Here's hoping the loser goes out like a lamb.
Seahawks (3-11) vs. Cooking (Manicotti)
This fall we are combining our love of the football and our dream of learning to cook by preparing a meal from the city of the Seahawks' opponent.
UW Has A New Song, Thanks To A Student
Way back in May, we wrote about The University of Washington looking for a new school anthem. We are pleased to report the waiting is over for our purple and gold brethren: an anthem has been chosen. The song "Rise Up With Pride for Washington" was penned by UW senior, Catherine Henderson. The anthem debuted last Friday at a UW fundraising gala, but for those of us who aren't big UW donors the song will be introduced to the purple public at the UW vs. ASU football game on November 8th. Since no one will be going to Husky games in November in hopes of seeing a Husky win, we might as well all go to hear the new tune. You gotta take little victories and enjoyments in a season like this.
Times' Series on Washington Huskies Turning (Most) Stomachs, Changing (Some) Minds
Last week we were taking Husky football with a friend who was upset that the University hadn't fired coach Ty Willingham. We mentioned that, though he hadn't won many games, Willingham had restored integrity to the football program.
Willingham's Head Was Worth $100K To Husky Booster
The Seattle Times breaks the story of just how diseased college sports fans have become. The newspaper got about 1,000 emails that Husky fans sent to University of Washington president Mark Emmert, athletic director Todd Turner, and coach Ty Willingham through a public records request.

When Don James Was the Coach, Players Never Got Injured
Husky quarterback Isaiah Stanback is out for the rest of his Husky career after his foot imploded during Saturday's loss to the Beavers.
